Met office have just tweeted that heathrow is at 35.1 c

Well that ends that debate I suppose!!

Lots of mid-high 34s as well, July record could fall within the hour potentially, though the cells are coming in quite rapidly from the channel so could be a race against time for the all time record.

We're cosing our fairly heavy lined curtains as the sun moves round.  29C indoors now, but 32C outside.

The view from Tomasz Schafernacker (according to his Twitter) is that the cloud bubbling up over France (of which it is quite significant), may well scupper chances of the temperature record being broken. We will see... The July record is likely to be beaten without a problem though.

Hmmm quite a lot of cloud at Heathrow now. I have a feeling that if the record is going to go it’s going to be somewhere in the Cambridge area.

That cloud shouldn't last long at all, its the left over from the decayed showers that came up from the channel, will go back to clear skies soon enough (like 15-20 mins I'd guess based on what happened here, I can see it trundle off to the north of here still.

35.6c now, pretty sure it's accurate given net weather top 20 current temps.  Feels insane out there!

Because the weather gods always find a way to scupper things.

Trouble is there looks like another area of cloud not far behind this one. Still the cloud seems to be staying West of London for now. So still good for E.Anglia

If it was any other day these showers would die out, but Not today...
