Great idea that some verges are left to flower even though they will still need to be cut once seeded. Alternatively the hay with many wild flower pods yet to mature could be spread over a barren area to bring these areas into use.

Used this method to reseed a common area with heathers.

Just wish sight lines and road signs are kept clear of plant growth.

Hello Snipper,

The Highways Agency (I guess) at the Boreham Interchange and the ECC Highways Department on the junction of Lawn Lane and The Chelmer Valley Way seem to want to make the landscape as barren as they can. In the past few months they have removed the majority of the trees and bushes. So much for thinking "green"

Over 30c in my bedroom even after attempting to keep it cool, sleeping will be uncomfortable to say the least.

Yes really annoying. I am not sure how many cuts a year but more than one I expect. Less cuts, less cost, less demand on our council tax payments. Will release monies to waste elsewhere unless residents press for alternatives.

To some degree it may be to do with lines of sight and safety issues. Not always though. Could also be due to possible future junction alterations at Boreham Interchange. Easier and cheaper to clear young growth now than mature  later. To be ‘onset I dunno.

Feel an email coming on to my local councillors. I am sure they always love to hear from me. You should do the same. Might not necessarily  achieve much but certainly works in occasions.

Give it until around 7 p.m. then get every window and door open for a couple of hours to use any through breeze.

Feel like I'm a population of 1 enjoying the heat! Will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings. Hopefully top it all off with some big storms.

I’m loving the heat too but I also have a higher tolerance for heat than most. I wish it was 34 degrees everyday in summer!

28.9c yesterday and 29.6c today.

Looking like 36c here tomorrow, but we do tend to be a little cooler than the surrounding areas.

Nice that there are some who like it. A relatively new experience for many of us.

So what do you do as a job? Heavy physical daily effort?

lol, I’m a neuroscientist and work in a freezing cold laboratory with low humidity.

Yeh maybe I wouldn’t enjoy the heat as much if I was outside all day.

Try walking outside at 3pm tomorrow. The contrast between your air conditioned environment and outdoors will be amazing!

Make that 2 Lauren - loving every minute.

Fan on - cold beer - feeling comfortable.

Wish summer days like this were more frequent.

Haha try working on a grade 1 listed Abbey roof today with full scaffold and plastic protection. Tomorrow will be interesting. Ignore the time on the clock, this was taken at about 1:30 pm.

Hopefully we break the record but really happy it’s a one day thing at these levels .

Probably the places that stand the best chance of breaking the record.

I spent a year doing a Research Masters in muscle physiology in an air conditioned biomedical research lab from 2007-2008 and it was a wonderful experiece - I wish I had been able to make a career out of research!  Pity there wasn't much hot weather to make the air conditioning seem that useful, though.

I’ve told the clients we won’t be on site tomorrow as it would be too dangerous to work at height in those conditions. Don’t get me wrong, extreme heats ok if your sat in an air conditioned office or walking around in flip flops and shorts but in my line of work I’d rather it didn’t happen.

EAST: 34.3C at Writtle, Essex, makes it the hottest day of the year so far. It was also the warmest place in the UK today.

In Uxbridge tomorrow working.

Last time I experienced 39c was 2 years ago in Dubai.

What a wonderful experience (if it happens) to have it happen on homeland, on an island that borders the North Atlantic, truly astonishing.

Quite a day to see pretty much the whole of East Anglia reach 30c or above. After the storms the humidity wasn’t that high so it actually felt pretty decent.

Don’t know what to think of tomorrow, it isn’t like we have much experience with that potential level of heat.
