Surely drought and heat must make farming much harder than a more average summer?

This year has been almost spot on. Excellent hay crop with competitive prices, a good mix of moisture and sun preventing any swing towards intense irrigation/flooding, certainly around here. Harvest well underway. I'd call this an average summer tbh!

They are riding the plume north north east.. Sat24 illustrates this well..

Ok, split the difference and you have more or less a northerly.

This is a HECK of a storm incoming! I'm sitting in my garden in Portsmouth looking out to the channel and there is a lightning bolt every second in the distance with some spectacular strikes! This ain't going to break up in the channel... prepare for a deluge someone! Maybe me!!

Might not be that much rain though.. Those Storms are going to be pretty elevated... Interesting how this has, not quite gone to plan

The activity seems to be increasing on the east side.  I wish I lived a little bit closer to surrey

These storms seem to be travelling NNE

Glad to hear it!  Enough grass left for livestock?

Nope.  Been predicted to go up the country but as with a lot of systems the eastern side tends to be more active.  Not saying they will make it to Kent but they have a good chance

Yep, managing it nicely. Actually having to top some fields to keep them tidy and up to scratch!

Most verges and field margins around here appear pretty dry if the state of the vegetation is anything to go by.

Go here and check the live map over the channel - hundreds of strikes landing. Big storms incoming.

That's a great link, thank you

The storms incoming look great....just look at the ones breaking out around Exeter too. Monumental.

No way they are heading nnw towards portsmouth

In Seaview on the Isle of Wight (should I be in this thread? I am usually in Surrey!) and we have had a light show to the south for about an hour. Getting closer now and now starting to hear the rumbling thunder! Not going to sleep much tonight.... Dorking has missed out on all the storms so far so very excited about this!
