Met Office forecasting 38'C in Northolt (where I'm from) on Thursday. Never seen that on a UK forecast before.

I've just come back from Rome where we got to 39c yesterday, seems hotter here, probably due to the humidity.

Not having an airconditioned apartment to return to is also disappointing!!

Loving the heat, sorry! Shame all we'll get is the ubiquitous "change to cooler conditions from the west" - what on earth has happened to our stormage over the past years?

Absolutely Brilliant Evening , Straight to the Garden after work for a Beer . Not often you can chill with virtually nothing on  ( Yes I have shorts on ) at this time of night . Had the curtains closed all day and windows closed so hopefully it won’t be to bad .

Try getting some electrolytes from a sports drink and get your pulse points cold. ie cold wet flannel on neck and wrists

Cold wet flannel has helped a lot, thank you

Surely drought and heat must make farming much harder than a more average summer?

Meteogroup/BBC forecast for the east tomorrow seems well down on temperatures to me - 32.33C the highest, and 33-34C for most of the region on Thursday, with south Essex just scraping 35C.

I can’t blame you , I certainly wouldn’t like this as a regular thing , just trying to make the best of it . Just enjoyed a couple of beers in the Garden .

Wrong, pure and simple.

That seems a bit low .  I’d be surprised not to see something close to the record .

Given the source of air and most of that region missing any showers . As an aside several city records were broken here in France today . Bordeaux , Rennes , Tours and Brive .

Arpege has also upgraded temps for  central and northern France on Thursday , quite a few 43 and 44s showing up .

If those favoured areas can hold into sunshine throughout the day then the UK record is well within reach .

We hit our max temp of 31C at 18.42 this evening. I don't think I've ever seen a max temp that late in the day before. Still at 29.8 now. over an hour later...

Met office currently predicting 35c for Kenley )Surrey) ,which is the closest station ( it’s about 2 miles from me), on Thursday. In the 23 years I’ve lived in the area I’ve never seen anything above 32c forecast, so it must be exceptional.

I think the cricket match I’m playing in after work is going to be a warm one. I’ll leave the jumper at home

Tomorrow’s temps seem 1-2 degrees underdone. 850 temps will be mid to high teens in the SE (comparable or even 1 degree above today), and EA may scrape 20 degrees so mid 30s likely

Is Rennes still as dingy as it was when I went there on holiday in 1997, I wonder?

BTW did you work for a consultancy?

Last 20 years ran my own business. Covered southern England over as far a Dorset. Included London. Dumped doing structural surveys and specialised elsewhere.

Tomorrow might be underdone in terms of temperatures. I guess it is an unusual set up seeing a south westerly so I guess some Atlantic modification might be factored in. Still Eastern parts still have the chance of hitting 35c as a generally offshore wind will mean those under the highest 850s will receive the benefits of it.

Thursday just looks roasting, even the look-east forecast has highs of 36 from south Essex to Cambridge.

Temperatures still at 28/29c over this part of the world, some cloud beginning to appear to the south now.

I think a lot of members do like to see the extremes , so if there’s a chance of a record it would be great to see it go .

You’d be hard pressed to find a more favourable set up for the UK to break its highest max .

Quite unusual to say it’s 8:30 in the evening and the temp is still 29.7c
