Chilly ol' breeze out there today but again sunny...nothing exceptional though, I remember 40 years ago to this period in time when Maggie Thatcher was elected as the 1st female Prime Minister and I had a primary school trip to the Peak District and yes it was snowing although lightly with huge big 50p size flakes.

I remember that day, too, Froze: the beginning of the last Little Ice-Age!

Lovely cloudscapes today though, and some sharp rain/graupel showers around.

Noticeable wind chill today out of the sun , great cloudscapes but so far no showers making it down to Surrey. Was nice walking around Richmond Park air quality was very high with sparkling sun shine

We’ve had shower after shower today! Very localised, with graupel/hail mixed in. They are mainly moderate-heavy.

Also, we just had a REALLY strong gust of wind come from virtually nowhere!

For the second time today, we have a mixture of rain, graupel and snowflakes falling...

Couple of lightning strikes registered so far this pm; one near Luton and one in North London. The showers seem to be coming through in lines.

We went to Newhaven Fort today and it was very cold in the wind especially when walking around the battlements and the guns. We were lucky that we didn't have any rain showers. I don't like the wind so much but the showers don't worry me much because its always good to have it. I am glad that it doesn't seem to be getting as cold as first thought, I don't want to feel cold in May it should be slightly behaving itself this point. The charts are look to be improving towards the end of the week which is a brilliant.

We actually had some sleet earlier in Hastings, mixed in with Large convective raindrops and graupel. Some incredible clouds apes today, too!

Had plenty of wintry showers today, temperature dropped to 4.5c this afternoon during one particularly heavy one.

In Barnet, North London there were bands of showers coming through all afternoon many with hail and there was some thunder as well most notably at around 2.30pm when ther was a loud clap of thunder to the West. The hail was heavy enough to give a slight cover on the ground very temporarily (see first picture).

Nice to see a good showery clean northerly airflow! Here are a couple of pictures.

1.1.c when the neighbours finally let me get to sleep at 4.45am this morning. No sign of a ground frost here in the valley but with my allotment 100m ASL, it will be a degree colder up there no doubt so I will be up there for an inspection shortly.

Quite a lot of people on the allotment complaining that heir plants are not thriving and many have delayed planting.

My new garden pot flowers seem to be suffering this morning.

Must of been fairly cold last night.

Bring back the warm & sunny weather - much less damaging to vegetation than this dross.

I've killed my Basil by planting out to early. My tomatoes and peppers are still indoors as it's just too cold for them, especially at night.

Potatoes on the other hand are loving it.

Got down to 0.9c here on the sandy soils of Esher Common - but no evidence of an actual ground frost - generally very cold feeling day so far only up to 8.9c

Back in Blighty, chilly here like in Prague, where it has been grim these last few days. They certainly need the rain there, more than we do. I don’t mind that but am not enjoying the chill at this time of the year. 1C this morning, nasty.

Valley Gardens were busy despite the cold wind ! Azaleas looking good but too early for rhododendrons last year was all over already by this weekend.

Gorgeous part of the world, I used to live 20 minutes walk away and visited Virginia Water/Windsor Great Park a lot. The azaleas are stunning!

Really wish it would warm up. The last Bank Holiday was such a tease. My seedlings need to be out but it's too cold.

My bones need the heat.

The new residential development and Apple HQ which anchors the project look very slick and a nice reminder of the attractiveness of London as a destination for investment!

Weather's awful, innit? Almost as soporific as waking-up to the dulcet tones of Jacob Rees-Mogg reading from Pride and Prejudice?

Looking good for some decent rainfall over the next 36 hours, but some variance amongst the high res models about exactly how much. GFS most bullish with over 20mm for parts of East Anglia and Hirlam the most pessimistic suggesting many in the Region will be lucky to see 10mm. Arpege, NMM and ICON going for the middle ground between the two extremes. With high pressure and sunnier, warmer weather set to return next week, some rain for gardens and crops would be great and give a welcomed boost to plant growth. Accumulative rainfall charts up to midnight Weds 8th:
