The coldest June’s are

In recent years, only the June’s of 1991, 1977 and 1971 ran colder. Before that, you have to back to 1923, 1916, 1908, 1906, 1860, 1823, 1821, 1749, 1745, 1725, 1705, 1698 and 1689 to find cooler months of June

The wettest are 2007 and 2012

This so far as I can dig out data, anyone know of colder or wetter ones?

1972 was also a stinker, John?

June 1990 was also a shocker, in London at least. At the time it was the cloudiest June on record (since beaten by 1991, 2012 and finally 2016).

The 90s had some awful Junes. 1990, 1991, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999 were all terrible or sub-par, overall.

June 1991, 2012 and 2016 were all worse.

Interesting reading what folk feel are the coldest.

Using the CET data then I found the following

coldest was 2012 at 76 coldest in the list of June's from 1648-2018 with 13.5 C as the Mean Temperature for the whole month

2013 had 13.6 and ranked 92 nd coldest

2011 at 108 with 13.8

and 1999 13.9 ranked 127 th

Conversely 2018 ranked 243 with 16.1

It was our cloudiest June on record though, and 8th wettest.

June 1991 was a lot colder than June 2012 in London.

You might like to read the Met O summary of June for the country?

Here in SouthYorkshire the average high is 2.2°C below average this month so far and I don't think next week's weather will compensate, though it would be nice if it did. Currently a 4 degrees below average 16°C today which is another dent in the average max of this month.

Since when has Yorkshire in mid-June had average maxes at 20c?...that's what I expect here in Essex currently.

In the 1981-2010 averages some parts of South Yorkshire do indeed average a max of 20 degrees in late June.

Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport, metoffice 1981-2010 averages:

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/climate/gcx21p9fr

June average high 19.5°C - seeing as that's the average high that would be for mid-June, but we're nearly a week past that, so would be approaching 20 now.

Yes we actually see temps on par with some parts of SE England in June. Probably because of local topographical effects of warming of the air off the Peninnes.

Well if you're further north the topographical effects would be a case but less so near Doncaster/South Yorkshire...but the United Kingdom map does prove to a warming climate and as you say not as much difference as you'd think between South Yorkshire and the south east for the maximum averages in June - not sure you can base readings alone on that map though.

As we get close to the end of the month I do not feel that this month matches 2012 or 2007 however with rain on about 20 days, a very dull month and a near complete lack of heat this is certainly an exceptionally poor month.

This month's failed heatwave (compared to what charts showed not long ago and the now well below forecast temperatures even based on yesterday's forecast) makes any other failed heatwaves in my memories pale in comparison. This June is only slightly "better than" 2012, and a lot colder (though drier) than June 2007. Still been my worst June in many years. At the end of the day you really have to laugh at what a fail the climate of the UK is. Just can't do anything. No snow last winter, failed heatwave with maxes of 14°C, it is very funny really.

So people who criticised me for making this can not even complain any more. June 2019 has been dreadful in different ways. The first half was very cool and very wet, followed by constant thunderstorms without the heat beforehand (causing excess flooding) and then a heatwave that has been downgraded ever since it was first projected to happen. Very poor month, not as wet as 2012 or 2007 but not very far off here really. All in all quite a terrible month, even if temperatures have picked up in the last few days, as I don’t think a decent last week (though heavily downgraded) makes up for 20 odd bad days.

Nice and sunny / warm here today, if we keep this up for the next 2-3 days then this month is definitely better than 2012 for me, probably better than 2007 & 2008 also. I think conditions have been worse in central / eastern areas though it hasn't been a fantastic month by any means.

Still, as a hayfever grass pollen sufferer I'd prefer a wet June & a nice August when I'm off work and the kids are on holiday. Not that we've had that combo in recent years!

June 2019 sits firmly between June 2012 (the worst) and June 2007 (significantly better) here. Although 2007 did not surpass 30C like this one has, it did contain a dry, sunny and warm first 12 days. This June has redeemed itself a bit since the 19th, essentially ensuring it is not an absolute fail of a month.

Not completed all my stats just yet but the 2nd wettest June with 106.9 mm only 2007 with 136 being wetter

Temperature wise 0.5 C below my average from 1997-2019 (inc), and only the 6 th coldest mean value so well away from the coldest. This was 1997 and 2001 both  with 14.4 C mean temperatures
