Done well to miss all the showers since first thing this morning. Always seems to happen when the wind veers southwesterly. May get some in the next few hours though.

Took the Nephew over the fields earlier to fly the kite. We'd only been flying for 5 minutes and the actual Red Kite came over to investigate what was encroaching on its territory. It got pretty close at one point, but this photo might need zooming in.

I can see flashes way to the South West of here. Starry skies above.

It just went mental here for about 1 minute!

Gusty winds out of nowhere, hail, torrential rain - 100mm/hr. That was a surprise!

Evening all, it's nearly Christmas, the tree is up, the lights and trees outside are up, the pressie shopping is done, I'm done making and selling Christmas fairies and all I want for Christmas is snow. It's currently piddling down AGAIN. I'm so sick of rain, what wouldn't I give for some cold, frosty mornings to make it feel a bit more seasonal. They doesn't seem even a glimmer of hope for that, let alone a single, solitary snowflake. Hurrumph!

Agreed jethro! Even 2006 and 2007 brought us some of that!

What's surprised me the most around here is the number of mature trees we've lost. A combination of all the high winds and saturated ground, they've just been blown over, roots and all. Not helped by the mild temperatures meaning the leaves have been incredibly late dropping this year, the oak tree next door still has lots of leaves - bonkers in mid December.

Managed to dodge pretty much every shower today, and we are just missing that big area of heavy rain that is sliding just north of here. Can hear the wind getting gusty now though.

Several bursts of heavy hail in the last hour. We are certainly getting a succession of very active fronts in the evenings, 3 in the last 4 days ; Thursday, yesterday and today.

Just had a couple of bright flashes of lightning and rumbles of thunder.

Yes it's an incredibly tiresome pattern we're in at the moment! Fingers crossed for a change around NY.

There is discussion on Ian Fergusson’s twitter about a potential supercell near Newton Abbott.

Interesting.

Looking at the radar frame - even though it's moving sw to ne, it does seem to make a bit of a jump to the right.

Some odd spots of blue sky seen today, but mainly overcast, with a light breeze. Currently at it's warmest so far today with 9.2°C, and the light breeze is out of the south around 4mph

Feel a bit like the regular "Keep the thread alive post"......

And so the light rain continues, however as the enclosed shows the heavy rain sits to EAST, SOUTH,WEST, in fact almost all around us this morning.. Another one of those model chuckle days, as the enclosed shows from last week, something other than rainfall didn't quite happen! Currently same ass the overnight low which was  5.7°C at: 06:25
