Before we start with the usual knee jerk reactions the highest gust officially recorded at Camborne (just down the road from Illogan) was 68mph and at Culdrose 79mph. I haven;t a clue where this station at Illogan is but the reported gust appears spuriously high

Wind has just started to drop here.
That was a nasty storm.
Loads of fences down and counted four shed roofs damaged that I can see of my neighbours.
Luckily nothing happened in my garden.

Suppose they always have their reason for a weather event going wrong or worse but that doesn't change the mistake if im honest.

This is their tweet earlier..

Looking at Culdrose that tweet is not far off the mark

I agree that it is a brief period of the strongest winds but whether its 2 hours or 30 hours I personally think it should of been named.

Gusts as fast as 113mph have been battering Cornwall

I think as commented this seems an extreme weird reading, as noted below from Weatheronline, here's today's peak gusts:

Very windy earlier, a few branches down and the trees are looking quite bare now.

Drier and a little calmer now, it has also brightened up. 12.0°C

Mount Batten gets 83mph gust, theres no Torpoint Ferries due to wind for 90 minutes, trees down across Plymouth and South Hams, police advise not to travel and it doesn't meet the criteria.

Met Office you got this one wrong. If it had been a Weekday it would be chaotic. He got lucky this morning

Rain has been fairly constant since lunchtime,  currently 17.2mm and more to come.

Certainly been a wet few months, and it looks like November is going the same way

Well at least we wont to go cap in hand to European Union and ask to buy water next year!

To be fair, it was a pretty good forecast for here in central southern England, Alexis Green on the regional 6:30pm yesterday had a big  yellow warning blob up with "Dangerous winds, 60-80 mph gusts" and reinforced it saying 60-70 inland and 70-80 on exposed coasts with trees down in places. She unsurprisingly didn't forecast the 109 mph gust at the Needles cliff edge, though! Max gusts today near here: 62 mph Southampton Airport, 58 mph at Hurn, Portland Bill 77 mph, St. Catherines pt 68 mph so I'd say she got it right.

However in my back garden at a mere 3 metres in the middle of an estate, the highest gust was 28 mph which is typical for here at that height in these conditions (around half of the exposed 10 metre sites). 12mm rain so far, max 13.5°C, min pressure this afternoon 977.3 hPa..

We'll that was quite an exciting morning!

20.8mm of rain today. It just keeps coming! The ground is saturated and fields are flooded. It's pretty much the same as it was during the 13/14 Winter.

Here, the wind and the rain have largely been at different times. The strongest of the wind was earlier this morning, then a calmer and bright interlude before midday, then intermittent and often heavy rain since then, with gusty winds but not as strong as this morning.
