Not weather related but regional related....

I'm staying in Farnham Dorset for the week soon and wondered if anyone had any suggestions for sightseeing/days out. It'll also include a 2 year old but she loves outdoors anyway.

Any suggestions for that region? I'm happy to travel up to an hour.

Cheers

You could head down the A354 and go to Monkey World? Bovington tank museum is not far away from there either - that's pretty cool. Corfe Castle - get on the steam train and travel to Swanage. Lulworth cove, Farmer Palmer's farm park, Weymouth sea life centre. Brownsea island is great fun - ferry across from Poole harbour. The Blue pool, which is near me. I used to do a lot of work there. At this time of year, the water is at it's most colourful due to the sun angle refracting on clay particles.

Are you a National Trust member? Several great places like Kingston Lacy and Mottisfont.

You're out in the sticks, so plenty of walks, but well within an hour's drive for Salisbury, Bournemouth, Christchurch etc.

The New Forest is not far out to the east, just keep going when you get to Fordingbridge. Burley would be the closest main village.
Brock, Beaulieu and Lymo further S/SE. Not sure when the Pigs get released this year, but they're normally up North, around Brook.

Monkey World down at Wool would also be good for your daughter. Then the Tank Museum is not far from there. Then S and SE, for
Durdle Door, Corfe Castle and Swanage (and the Steam Train in between). The chain ferry to Poole is still down, at least it was a couple of weeks ago when we were there, but Studland on the way to it is a lovely beach if the weather's nice.

There's Stourhead to your NW, but it's too early for leaf kicking and the changing colours. Pricey too, as you now have
to pay for the dull house visit, as well these days.

There's a tap room at Sixpenny Handley brewery, which is close to you, if that's your thing and Ringwood brewery, if you're really keen.

From the Local rag:

Gritter u-turn after council planned to get rid of two snow ploughs

CONCERNS that BCP Council did not have enough snow ploughs ahead of winter have prompted it to spend an extra £35,000 on keeping two vehicles it had planned to get rid of.

According to a cabinet report, the shortage of vehicles was discovered during preparation of gritting routes for the coming months.

In order to ensure it has enough vehicles to manage the area’s main roads, the council has postponed plans to dispose of two gritters for a year.

Consideration of council preparation for the winter weather comes as researchers at University College London have warned that the country could see a return to weather similar to that of the 2018 ‘Beast from the East’.

Studying current weather systems and patterns over the Atlantic, they said there was a 57 per cent chance temperatures in the coming winter would be below those experienced in 2017 and 2018

Thx BCP. Safe to bet on a mild and damp south westerly dominated winter now.. normal service.

I think we benefited from cloud dispersing on the lee side of the Mendips.

It came good here from about 5:30pm, so we squeezed in a bbq.

Looking good from here on in. Awesome stuff. ☀️

High of 21.5°C here today.

Tonight it is mild, muggy and a bit breezy. Temperature hasn’t moved much from the 16°C it has been sitting at for the past 2 hours.

From the Local Rag

Winter's coming... and if it snows, this year you might have to collect salt yourself and grit your own road

PEOPLE living in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole could be able to collect their own allocations of grit under plans being considered by the leader of BCP Council.

Residents and businesses could be given the opportunity to collect supplies to salt roads and pavements outside their properties.

Speaking at Wednesday’s cabinet meeting, councillor Vikki Slade said the move could save the council money and increase community engagement.

Hah, they really are planning for a winter with snow....really...
