Dry since around 11am here today, but very windy for most of the afternoon. High today was 20.5°C.

Calming down now with winds back down under 20mph, with gusts occasionally reaching 25-30mph.

Now 18.0°C with partly cloud skies and breezy.

A new record likely for me; wind run. That record is hard to beat as you need a high wind speed all day. The last record got to 398 miles, so close to getting 400. Currently at 372.9 miles with 2 hours and 49 mins to go.

Wind has picked up in last hour SW 20-27mph with plenty of 35-40mph gusts.
Had a handful of 50-54mph gusts.

I have no idea of wind strengths, but watching the cctv, at just after 15.30 this afternoon there were some crazy gusts at the marina, large branches came off trees, the boat solar spotlight on the roof was destroyed and my 2 roof vent covers disappeared that have survived many years on the roof of the boat!!

Hoping we can one dry weekend this month, looking at the current output we have another low coming in next Fri/Sat and then the weekend after that.. another low.

We have the 23rd booked off and we plan to go away for the weekend so I hope it improves with time, even if it's not 30C with glaring sun, I hope it's just dry!

First showers of the day here in BS34. Looks like a stream of showers coming in, off the Bristol Channel, for next couple of hours.

Surprised not more reports on this thread from members in Somerset and Wiltshire. I’m down in Dorset looking at the radar of a very active convection line bringing torrential rain and thunderstorms particularly over Shepton Mallet and Frome moving towards Warminster/Westbury.

I dare say there will be reports of localised flooding coming through soon.

Hi Lyn

It's a measurement of how much wind has passed a static point over a period of time. If the wind speed was 10mph for 24 hours, the wind run would be 240 miles. Another way of putting it, if you started at a point in a hot air balloon and the wind was blowing at 10mph all day, the balloon would have travelled 240 miles. It also has something to do with working out evaporation as well.

Hope that helps?

Overnight low was 14.7°C here.

Mostly cloudy with sunny intervals this afternoon, it’s stayed dry here apart from a fleeting shower earlier.

It reached 22.5°C at: 13:16, it is currently 21.1°C

Some of us have driven 250 miles today to be on holiday in South Yorkshire where it’s a beautiful afternoon!

Not impressed with what I am probably missing at home!

Best I’ve seen today was driving through some decent convection on the M1 with a few heavy showers!

Absolutely torrential

That storm has now just finished as you can see in the panoramic photo the storm on the left has passed and on the right the next one is coming in and more rumbles of thunder now looking at the radar yet another streamer coming in
