Now into June and not a single rumble or clap of thunder nor any distant lightning in 2019 yet.

Previous latest first thunder event of the year was 24th May (1992).

Only 8 days on which thunder occurred last year (Guildford average is 16 days) and two of those were in November. Seriously wonder if we'll have to wait until July and the 2nd half of the year for the first 2019 event? Week ahead: more unsettled atlantic dross with any potential shunted away east before it has a chance to develop. Absolutely dire.

Real kick in the teeth when remembering the fantastic night 20 years ago (1st/2nd June 1999) and what has to be put up with these days.

Well along with northern Derbyshire where I've lived before, South Yorkshire must be the "thunderstorm-free-zone" of England. My God never seen something so pathetic. I am saving up my money to go live in Berkshire again when at least I might see a storm.

*pulls up a chair*

Season is still young, though.

Just keep the Dallas, New Orleans, Chicago and St.Louis earthcam sites on your bookmarks and you'll be seeing dozens of storms this summer.

Don’t think the one distant rumble of thunder I’ve heard this year excuses me from this club.

Bad ain't it, this year?  Woh Nelly

Most years since 2010  have been bad,  Last year  we had only one thunderstorm day , a decent one at that .   So far this year we have had 2 thunder days, but they were only distant rumbles , I have seen 2 flashes from those storms so thats my quota for 2019 then , anything else will be a rare bonus ,

Gets worse year on year. Where are my beloved Norfolk storms of the 80s and 90s? In bleedin' Holland, that's where!

I guess my one CG/Thunderclap from Friday takes me out of the NSC this year.

As I don't reckon there will be any plumes this year, I'm hoping for some violent surface based storms in the early autumn.

I think six thunderclaps with accompanying visible flashes counts as an exit from the NSC.  One flash wonders can happen on a January!  What is needed is for a storm to follow unbearably humid heat with pink lightning bolts pearcing a dirty yellowish sky.  That would be an exit

Well I’m normally out of here by the end of May but save for one distant rumble this year has been absolutely dead so far

Out last Sunday afternoon 9th, so no waiting till August this year (2017 and 2013) or going all year without an overhead storm (2010 and 2012).

2014 and 2016 the only years of the 2010s to even approach long term average for thunder days.

Well even though it wasn’t as good as what some had, I think last nights allows me to exit the NSC for this year 🙂

I'm checking myself back into here. One distant clap of thunder shouldn't count.
