Best/worst months and seasons of the 2010?

Meteorological spring 2019 is nearing its end and with just 7 months left and two full seasons of the 2010s to go, I am going to look back at the 2010s and give my opinion for my area what I think were the best and worst months and seasons of the 2010s.

Winter 2009-10 for me was the best winter season of the 2010s, worst was 2013-14, it barely registered as winter.

Best spring for me was 2018 for its variety of heat and cold, worst spring is a bit trickier, 2014 was a bit tedious.

Best summer so far is 2018 whilst the worst so far was 2012

I'm struggling with autumn. Best 2010? Worst 2015?

Best and worst months

January, best: 2010; worst: 2014

February: best 2018; worst: 2014

March: best: 2012; worst: 2014

April: best: 2011; worst: 2012

May: best: 2018; worst: 2015

So far

June: best 2018; worst: 2012

July: best 2018; worst: 2012

August: best 2013; worst: 2014

September: best 2014; worst 2012

October: best 2017; worst: 2013

November: 2010; worst 2015

December: 2010; worst 2015

Best year overall was 2010 for classic winters. Both ends of that year were cold. The summer wasn’t great though, but it was possibly the best of the poor ones between 2007-12, and the June was very sunny and warm. August was dreadful though.

Worst year would be 2015. Boring year weather wise and crap summer.

Best summers: 2013, 2018. There haven't been many good ones, to say the least, since I started recording weather statistics in 2007.

Worst summers: 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017

Best winters: 2018/2019.

Worst winters: 2010/2011, that's about it.

Now for individual months, Best/Worst:

Jan: 2013 because it was interesting and had a mix of mild, deep snow and even a thunderstorm. Worst, not sure.

Feb: 2019/2013

Mar: 2012/2013

Apr: 2011/2012

May: 2018/2015

Jun: 2018/2012

Jul: 2018/2012

Aug: 2018/2014

Sep: 2016/2017

Oct: 2011/2012

Nov: 2015/2010

Dec: 2015/2010

The worst consecutive 12 month period was easily June 2012-2013. So many stinkers in that period. Terrible summer of 2012, then the cold boring autumn, nondescript winter and record cold spring in 2013.

Seeing as it's only 11 degrees today and the forecast is diabolical, I'm just going to add another worst month to the list: June 2019.

I would say that is OTT however Tuesday-Thursday we are forecast a maximum high of around 11C and more than 60mm of rain.

As it stands, this month is only behind 07 and 12 in the memory when factoring in the outlook.

Best months:

January - 2010: A month that actually felt like winter.
February - 2018: The Beast from the East was quite an interesting event as something like that very rarely happens in the UK.
March - 2012: Warm, dry and sunny which was lovely. Though we did pay for it over the next few months of that year.
April - 2011: Warm, dry and sunny with plenty of days with above average temps.
May - 2018: Warm, dry and sunny throughout. I managed spend a lot of time in the garden.
June - 2018: The continuation of warm, dry and sunny weather. And the heatwave we had towards the end of the month.
July - 2018: A really good summer month.
August - 2016: Lots of southerlies and around average and above average temps. The only decent August I can think of since 2003.
September - 2015: A bit of everything. Sometimes it was summery and other times it was autumnal. Warm and dry at the end with cold nights.
October - 2011: The Indian Summer we had at the beginning was nice.
November - 2016: Plenty of cold and sunny days with frosty nights.
December - 2010: A brilliant month for us weather enthusiasts.

Worst months:

January - 2017: With so many anticyclonic glooms, I think it turned out to be a pretty boring month.
February - 2014: Not much happened. Pretty boring.
March - 2018: Whilst the Beast from the East was interesting at first, I would have liked to actually see some more spring like weather that month.
April - 2012: Cold, wet and miserable throughout.
May - 2019: First half had below average temperatures. Whilst the second half was warmer and a little above average at times, it was nothing noteworthy.
June - 2012: For the same reason as April 2012.
July - 2012: For the same reason as the April and June of that year. Although we did have a hot spell towards the end.
August - 2006: It felt pretty dismal compared to the previous couple of months of that year. August generally is dismal, so this was a hard one to decide.
September - 2017: It wasn't a bad month, but compared to other Septembers in the decade, this was quite bland with nothing noteworthy.
October - 2013: A dull month.
November - 2018: Nothing really noteworthy weather wise.
December - 2015: The month felt much more like October. In fact, Christmas day over here was warmer that it has been over the last few days... in June.

Best seasons:

Spring - 2017: Mostly warm, dry and sunny with a few cold frosty nights scattered in-between.
Summer - 2018: A really good summer. Plenty of hot and sunny days with low humidity.
Autumn - 2015: Calm sunny months with some cold frosty nights.
Winter - 2010/2011: An exceptionally cold month. Quite interesting weather wise.

Worst seasons:

Spring - 2012: March was nice as was the last week of May, but the majority of the season was cool, wet and miserable.
Summer - 2007: I would have gone for 2012, but at least we did have a hot spell in late July. I can not recall any particularly hot spells during the summer of 2007.
Autumn - 2014: Wet and overall boring.
Winter - 2015/2016: For the same reason as Autumn 2014.

Even at this stage I can't see summer 2019 overtaking 2018 as the best summer of the decade now. It would need the second half to surpass the second half of summer 1995

Best months, two I have split in half to get the best weather

January 2013

February 2019 (there hasn't been even a moderately snowy one here since 2007 and 2009, so I'll go with that for the extraordinary weather at the end)

March 2018

April 2015 (this month gets forgotten: It was very similar here to April 2007 except it lacked any really warm days, however it was certainly better than the overrated April 2011 which was often cloudy)

May 2016 (also gets forgotten: sunniest May since 2001 and a couple of decent thunderstorms)

June 2014

July 2018

August 2019 (not brilliant but acceptable, last decent one was years ago)

September 2016/2011

October 2018 (nice return to seeing frosts in October)

November 2010

December 2017/2010

Worst:

January 2016

February 2011

March 2017 (can't remember a damn thing about it so must have been boring. Was thinking about splitting it with 2015 but suddenly remembered it was clear for that eclipse in March 2015)

April 2014

May 2015

June 2012

July 2012/2010 (how dull would that be!)

August 2010

September 2017

October 2013

November 2015

December 2018 (2015 was just too extroardinary. This was the same but a couple of degrees cooler)

Best 12 months: Dec 2017-Nov 2018

Worst 12 months: May 2015-April 2016
