Maybe you can just live in your own little alternate reality where the record temperature is only 36C.

This isn’t the correct thread for asinine ramblings about Heathrow. Start a separate thread perhaps.

It's the last bastion of climate-change denial, cheese...As fast as one daft, desperate 'debate' is consigned to the 'dustbin of history' another one comes along to take its place:

Proximity of aircon units was 2009's denialist wheeze; runways and exhaust-fumes were 2016's; and now, the same arguments are being repackaged as 'encroachment'!:oldlaugh:

Good weather for mackerel bashing, My younger brothers up on Anglesey and has had a good day, Will be giving his arms a rest and going after the Conger/whiting and the good old dogfish tonight. I was going to take a trip up to meet him myself (to show him how to fish properly..) but I've not got the patients for the Bank Holiday traffic especially in this heat!

Lovely weather here today. Just got the Barbeque lit.

Loads of people down here still. Horrible traffic jam going back. They'll all be gone when I head back in the morning.

With regard the above debate going on about Heathrow Weather Station temps. Can I ask that unless you can add value to the discussion with some hard evidence (with links to it), that we now draw a line under the discussion please. Going by a very recent article published by BBC News on the 25th July 2019 titled "Why is Heathrow so hot?" neither Paul Williams, Professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of Reading or the Met Office seem to have a problem using Heathrow Weather Station data. The BBC report this from the Met Office:

"The Met Office told us that their weather stations are built to very specific standards and any biases that could affect temperature records are taken into account when taking down readings."

Wind is beginning to drop now. Water is almost like a millpond. Fog may roll in, in a few hours. It's great when it does.

I simply just agreed with Aleman that Heathrow's weather station is located in an increasingly built up & busy area compared to 20 years ago. Yet my post was met with hysteria by some people. If it's of any use to you I think climate change is happening but is a combination of natural & man made influences.

The late August bank holiday Monday temperature record has gone with 28.6c at Tibenham Airfield in Norfolk beating the previous record of 28.2c in Holbeach in 2017

The daily record is 32.8c which was recorded in Cromer in 1964

Low cloud is proving stubborn to shift in the west which is impacting on the temps hot and sunny in the east

2017 had a very warm bank holiday and I also remember 1984 being hot. I don’t know what all the fuss is about. Yes it’s hot, and yes it’s very sunny, so let’s just enjoy it.

Glorious day with cricket and weather

Any ideas when we had a hotter day than yesterday in the last week of August in the Manchester area? 30C at Rostherne

Just hit 30.1C making it the first 30C in August here for 18 years.

Ill have to check, but I believe its also the first time I've ever recorded 30C in both July and August in a summer together.

Certainly been a fanstastic Bank Holiday weekend, glad the kids had some decent weather this August before they all go back to school.

It's 29.5ºC in Leeds according to the Leeds University weather station. Pity there is no official weather station here anymore, would be nice to get on the top 20 list.

30.1C now, 5th day above 30C in Leeds, two each in July and August and one in June. For comparison I believe 1995 had 8 days above 30C.

Heathrow again at 33.2c - what a surprise!

Weatheronline only has Heathrow/Cambridge at 33c today, so must be a smidgen below here. It does get a bit depressing that it seems whenever it’s hot it’s always Heathrow. It probably would have beat the 38.7 last month too but for 45 minutes of cloud cover that we didn’t get here until later in the afternoon after peak heating.

Its been a strange summer, mixed bag really although we have had a couple of short hot spells amongst some dross im afraid for my neck of the woods August has tipped the scales towards 'not great'..

Im quite interested in the outlook for early sept, a poor August is usually followed by a decent sept.I hope we get a protracted dry spell during Autumn , a nice time of the year to see an anticyclone for me

August will turn out pretty decent here in the end. Good first third, poor middle, good last third. It’s generally been drier here than many other locations too, with rainfall looking likely to finish below average - currently at around 75% of the average.

Sunshine will be interesting.

Hasn't been too bad here this month, nothing spectacular but not overly wet and still quite warm most of the time, although being on the coast never as warm as inland of course, particularly over this weekend.

This August is turning into a very good month here. The mean temp is 17.6C (+0.9C), the rainfall is just 32.6mm (54%) with only 9 days of rain and the sunshine is 169hrs (109% of average at this point).

The max of 30.2C today was the highest in August since 2001 and the third highest of the last 40 years. The mean max is 1.7C above average, but the minima just 0.4C above.
