I disagree. 2018 was much nicer in terms of longer sunny and warm spells.

Its back to the cloud fest for days on end with only brief sunny spells.

Looking like we could be pulling in some fresher air from next weekend, today has been horribly humid. Can't wait for fresher air. Nice to see a Greenland high setup, the further into August we go into September we should see PM air become more prevalent to our northwest. Hopefully tapping into some of it come September, September can see the first proper cool days.

I think you've been thinking about Autumn since May Azazel...

As per usual, the weather has gone downhill since the start of August. Summer 2019 is no exception.

I still think another warm hot spell is on the cards with storms in mid August.

Has it? August has started on a better note than July ended here. All 4 days warm or very warm and next week looks fine too looking at the Met Office forecast with average temperatures with a risk of showers - so pretty normal.

Not going to get hung up about what the models are showing beyond next weekend, too far out to care.

Been warmer than average here but rather on the dull side. No complaints as such though.

We had storms in mid August 1987, during a very poor summer. Why can’t it happen now.

The cloud has been an issue for my location, and lack of sunshine. If this continues, I’ll mark that down as a poor August. Warm temps mean zero, if we can’t enjoy some sunny spells.

So basically the same thing you’ve been saying throughout July then.. nothing seems to have changed.

Warm, cloudy weather isn’t ideal but it’s obviously better than cold, cloudy weather. At least you can get outside and wear lose clothing which is what summer is all about.

Agree! Thankfully there hasn't been any long lasting heat this Summer & we've had plenty of rain filling up the reservoirs (sorry Whaley Bridge lol) & no disastrous moorland fires. Everything looks green & fresh compared to the dustbowl of last Summer.

Doesn’t match their forecast for Leeds which shows average temperatures next week, with only Wednesday and Sunday maybe not exceeding 20C. Pretty much what I’d expect here at this time of year.

I guess average summer weather is now considered autumnal. Must be global warming!

It’s not much to ask for more sunny weather is it, when we have so much dull conditions between October and March, sometimes into April.

Yes, I know it’s usable, but even cold cloudy and dry wouldn’t stop me from going out. The lack of sunshine takes away the summery feel. I know it’s been quite humid and thundery, but so far in the south east even the storms have been lacking.

So looking at the charts I think that’s probably it. We might get something nice in the last third of August I suppose.

Gonna rank the summer as a 4/10 - would’ve been a 3 but that one off plume storm pushed it up a digit. If we get something nice at the end of August I might push that up to 4.5 or a 5.

a horrendous June, very pleasant July with one storm and a typical modern August.

Absolutely no surface based convection at all here which is just bizarre to be honest, two summers running.

Can we please please please stop the guilt tripping in regards to peoples weather preferences! All weather types can be dangerous to human life... All of them! The needless little digs serve nothing, and are never going to change the weather which, NOBODY has any control over.

No. Instead we’ve had disastrous flooding and people losing their homes and possessions.

according to Wikipedia, the ‘disastrous’ moorland fires of 2018 caused the evacuation of 50 homes and a lantern festival to be cancelled.

Perspective I guess.

I don't think you should go this way, because you're going to lose big time.

Has been proved that heatwaves cause globally more deaths and destruction (wildfires and so on) than cold and rainy periods. So stop trying to make everyone guilty just because they don't like having  like you, constant sun and high temperatures for months please!

All extremes of weather result in death and destruction, that's why they're called extremes. Whether it be the 2003 heatwave or severe winters, all have their problems. But enjoying extremes won't make them less or more likely to happen so what is the point of this silly debate?

It has been a glorious Summer so far here! (West coast of Scotland)

I would rate it 9 out of 10.

Month of August so far has been wonderful - temperatures everyday between 20c to 23c, mild nights, plenty of sunshine and numerous thunderstorms. (2nd half of June and 2nd half of July much the same)

Today is alright at 18c with sunny spells and light showers but tomorrow and Wednesday once again brings the threat of thunderstorms here and max temps between 18c and 20c.

August so far summed up for me...warm temperatures, sunshine, wonderful convective skies and lovely sunsets.

Summer 2019 is definitely in my top 3 all time favourites.

Also just to add...the weather guilt tripping is a disgrace no matter if it’s severe Winter cold or a scorching Summer.

I am a weather enthusiast who enjoys extremes in any season - nothing we can do about what Mother Nature throws at us.

Plus I’m sure this is a weather forum...

If I were a betting man, I would now go for a sub 200 summer. This summer is just not getting going and I see nothing in the charts that are suggesting a rocketing up of the index.

hhhmmmm...looking like typical August fare, Atlantic influenced and rather unsettled, the further south and east the warmest and probably the driest. Strange that recent Augusts have been so similar particularly synoptical.

Perhaps it’s been said before, but for me this summer has been remarkable in the differences in weather across various regions, with the differences even more localised than ever. In central Somerset this has been a fine summer since late June. Very little rain, lots of sun and temperatures in the low 20s at worst. I’m as brown as a berry and my garden is pretty brown too. No thunderstorm has come close to my village at all this year so far - just the big ones a week or two ago heard in the distance.

I recall previous years coldly watching cloud all day while the east had sun and warmth.

Remarkable seeing the lines of rain on radar moving north over specific towns. Regular distribution seems to be a victim of global warming.
