Have my doubts about some of these smaller 'stations' - 101f near Shoeburyness in Essex, that's 38c where up the road here on the coast it's just above 33c and that's with a gentle on shore breeze!

See my post above.

Well... It's safe to say, that i've never felt heat of this magnitude and nature before; I just popped to Tesco's, to feed my crippling biscuit addiction. I was in there for only around 6 minutes. When I left the shop, it was like getting slapped by a hairdryer from the plunging depths of hell. The light wind that we have is hot, too. And then... then... The sun came out. And blimey, did the heat multiply by x100,000, or what...? the only event that even remotely comes close to this is 1st July 2015. Even just gently strolling down my road, caused me to sweat profusely under my arms. The air is so thick, it's almost hard to breathe. My fan has become rather redundant, as my room is 30.3c, so it's just blowing around the hot air.

I will remember this for years to come. And, if we don't get a thunderstorm from this, then I'll be truly astonished.

Writtle really is a surprise to be right up there, my sister got the day off work at Chelmsford from her office job (no air con) can see why now!

Well to be fair he said rounded, didn't say up or down unless I missed it, could just as easily be 38.2c for example?

True; that was my interpretation.  I'll ask.

On this tweet he shows a map of current estimated temperatures, with East Kent up to 39C - no station though

Could the Scottish temperature record go (think its 32.9C?)?, I notice Edinburgh remarkably went from 26C to 31C in just 1 hour from 14.00 to 15.00!

Regardless its not the record, as the record would be a 39c due to it being rounded up from 38.6c, so no great issue really either way.

Temperatures as I've said before are rounded to the odd number so 37.5 C=37 and 38.5=39 etc

Thanks John!  It must therefore be between 37.6C and 38.4C.

If it is airport I would expect rounded up, hot temperatures have a negative affect on takeoff performance, therefore round up to be cautious.

Writtle is frequently the warmest and coldest station in the East, I've noticed. Must be something to do with the siting.

I really hope it's at least 37.8 °C, for the magic 100 °F mark. Or that somewhere else makes it there. Would be frustrating to miss out on that by a fraction of a degree!

Edit: Summer Sun's post says that Heathrow has done it!

In my own little patch, having just arrived back from a fairly pleasant car ride from the Derbyshire Peak District meeting a long term ex colleague and friend in my car with the air con, thankfully, working well. I got out and it reminded me of Singapore or hong Kong after boarding in the UK 12 hours previously. Stifling, so came upstairs to read my weather station-crikey-my previous highest was 34.8 C (1/7/20130, no longer I am on 37.7 Cnow down to 37.1 C

37.9C/100.2F at Heathrow airport

Cor this is getting VERY close indeed, over 100f now but still a little short. I'd say the period between 3.30-4.15pm is key, if we are to break it it is going to fall over the next 45 minutes. Unfortunately there are weak showers moving in towards SW london however.

Will be interesting to see what Writtle/Cambridge are showing, plus other stations in the surrounds.

If they round to the nearest odd number, why is Cambridge reporting 38?
