You can't even see the sun in that pic. Can knock of 4-5c off the pitential if it stays like that. Even if it clears soon, the window is getting smaller for it to rise again.

Bit dramatic...?

Still completely sunny here in South East London can see bits of cloud to my west though.

How? If it was just a few loose clouds, fine. But you can't even see the sun. That is quite dense cloud. Will easily shave a couple of degrees off the temps. We have had this problem in July 1st 2015, just don't want it happening again.

Hopefully it clears very soon.

Yeah, our temperatures here dropped about 2-3f for a brief time, but have since risen by about 6f (now upto 33.5C). cloud deck should ease off pretty soon as MwB has said for Heathrow and we will likely see another sharp kick up.

Remember, Heathrow dropped to 31C for several hours between 11-1pm in 2015 and still ended up at 36c!

So is it 4-5 or a couple of degrees?

Why are you so pedantic and sarcastic?

Depends on how long it stays. If it's a short wave, a couple. If it stays for an extended period, could easily take 4c off the final result.

Everytime the sun is hidden by clouds, it is warming you are losing. Even if it breaks and it regains sunshine, you are still having to make up for lost ground.

I'm not saying it's the end of the record, but it is worrying and need to watch closely how much more cloud comes in.

Because you're making a lot of unsubstantiated claims. It's not pedantry, I'm challenging your claims.

Nor really, i just want winters to be like the mid 80's again, 6 inch fall of snow minimum with 10inch in a good year and a few other lighter falls dotted in, would like a LIA or maunder minimum type winter obviously but i would take the above, its just that 2 inches of slush doesn't float my boat.

Most of us on here would, but it’s not normal for much of England, at least every winter. Every few winters, maybe. Of course no one likes slush, unless it’s in a cocktail

How is it unsubstantiated? It's basic meteorology.

The longer the sun is hidden, the more the temps will be surpressed. Sure, you can claim that if the sun is regained, they will rise again. But if you started off at say 35c with no cloud and then you have 30 minutes of cloud that takes you back down to 33-34c. You have lost 1-2c of warming. Even if the cloud then breaks, you are still 1-2c behind what you would have been.
It may seem whining to you, but a lost degree or two caused by cloud can make the difference between a record or no record.

Cloud starting to get onto land now. Heathrow and Northolt will struggle I think to get much past the July record. Well, unless that cloud starts to fizzle away substantially.

But it was for most of the last century, its only a recent thing IMO that we have had to scratch around like hermits with the clap for snow.

That could be what came over here about an hour ago and it moved away within the hour. Back to blue skies and temps rising now.

Cant quite believe some of you are getting worked up about whether a temp is 32c or 35c OR whether temps drop if cloud appears. Chill out with an ice lolly

I've had really good dumpings of snow in 2 of the last 2 winters. Alright, 2018 was kinda Spring but still.
