90% probability of breaking the record for me. The other 10% just being the slight chance of clouds interjecting.

July record should be gone by about 1:30.

Rainband currently in the south fizzling out rather quickly. A similar scenario happening east nearer the London area would likely mean barely anything left by the time it reaches the Heathrow/Northolt/Kew Gardens warm trio.

Yeah, it's a nothingness really. Not concerned at all currently.

Not sure if the people in this thread saw the Met Office tweet about 34c at Kew Gardens at 11am earlier. Kew may be the place to break the July record initially.

Cloud band now passed over Portsmouth and back in the sun. Shouldn't pose much of a problem for London unless it develops more.

Yeah just areas of patchy mid level cloud. and still in the process of decaying as it trundles northwardcs.

Note that the convective line to the south is weaker than the cell that sparked the current line was at this stage in its life. I fully expect the eastern edge to fizzle out and maybe for the cells on the western side of that mass to become the more dominant as they are closer to the more unstable air filtering in.

Again these cells look fairly discrete, though there is more of them this time.

Not long to go now and you'll be able to revel in beige 11-13 degree weather again for 6 months.

First half of June was a total disaster in London, the 2nd half was much closer to normal with that one hot day at the very end. June warmer but wetter and cloudier than average (5/10).

July so far has been exactly what you would expect, temps slightly above average but sunshine and rainfall will probably end up bang on average. (7/10, maybe 8/10 if we break the record).

August is August. Cloudy, wet, below average temps. Calling it now (3/10).

Well, I think it's still looking okay. But if those clouds do stop the record, I will be very mad indeed. The potential for 40c is there today, and it may be a LONG time before we see it again.

I just want the cloud to bugger off until after 4pm, then it can do what it likes. Typical British luck if the cloud does interject.

Regardless, it's roasting out there whether it's 34 or 40 . Perhaps today is just not the day.

If today isn't, I don't know when will be. If ever.

It's all down to that cloud. Hopefully it buggers off westwards or is slower getting here. To be scuppered by that would be enraging. Personally I think it might be okay, but it's a worry.

Yep Cambridge is further from the cloud than London so the record could be broken there?

Honestly I think its quite probable the channel cells will do the exact same thing the current cells have done, decayed as they move in towards the N.channel, especially on the eastern flanks as the air is still fairly capped over the SE and hence why everything is decaying as it moves in. At some point the forcing will over take that, and even IF these cells decay, can't rule out them blowing up at peak heating again close to London (likely just to the north).

Still very much on target, and I'm about an hour upwind from Heathrow and still high levels of sunshine coming in.

Also remember MAX temp in 2003 was reached relatively early, I believe for W.London it was something like 2-3pm.
