I think that even June 2012 was better than this June so far. At least back then we did have that supercell thunderstorm at the end of the month.

Astronomical summer hasn't even begun so I'd say it's a little early to give up on the entire summer season!

I’ve actually managed a few dry days here since late last week. The main feature since then has been that it’s still felt more like autumn with lots of cloud and a cool breeze. At least the higher humidity yesterday made it feel a bit closer to summer.

Still think this Summer could be reminisent of 2015 in many ways. not a very good summer especially compared to last years masterpiece but with major short-lived spells of heat. next week showcases that possibility, although GFS has gotten carried away on the latest run for sure. This time the difference seems to be so far that the heat might be centrered over more Eastern Europe rather than Spain, Portugal & Southern France like it was in 2015 (2015 was one of Spain's hottest Summers on record.)

Aye, people's expectations for June are way too high

I don't think 20 degrees, dry and some sunshine is way too high of an exception for June.

9 degrees, endless grey skies and lashings of rain is something I would associate with November-March.

Interesting fact, the maximum CET so far for June is 16.6 degrees, which is 1.7 degrees below the 61-90 average, and is only marginally warmer than May (16.1 degrees). This June so far is also only around 1 degree warmer than the 61-90 average for May, and in some places will be cooler than the 1981-2010 average daily maximum for May. It has been very cold indeed (like I even needed to say that )

Jesus, the next week will be hell on earth in Europe. We are on track to have the warmest June since the measurements began 244 years ago.

I’m glad I’m in Latvia lol. At least we are getting some summer here.

Called my uncle in London, and he tells me it’s barely 21 degrees over there and mostly cloudy. What a poor start to summer.

It will most likely be warmer here in September than it is now!

That’s what I mean, and the problem with that is, summer is over by then.

Just seen this, wouldn’t this be interesting (it isn’t the express )  they said that the thunderstorms heading our way tonight have got an unusual spinning cell in them like the storms in America. It would cause a lot of trouble I’m sure and if  it did ever happen but what a thing to see.

The only reason Europe is so hot is because we’re fuelling it with our crap weather here! Someone has to pay for the heat, and it’s us.

Fun facts -  because we all know I'm only really waiting for the next winter to arrive.

May 2019 was extraordinary for one factor in particular - namely the depth of the -NAO. After what felt like a never ending spell of +NAO setups for the most part (only 2 x -NAO months since end of summer 17 until we hit May this year) we hit a very low figure of -2.62. This is the lowest recorded May NAO score on NOAA records going back to 1950.

Cross reference this with seasonal impacts going forward. There is a theory out there that the NAO setup in May is an indicator of patterns for the following winter. So - which years had a May NAO of -1.5 or less? Answer:

2017, 2010, 2008, 1995, 1990, 1980, 1968.

Common theme here? None of the following DJF CET scores were higher than 1.6 and all bar 2 (1980/81 and 2017/18) were below 1.

Just saying....and most definitely not a winter forecast.

Trust me to go away for five days on Sunday when the weather could potentially feel summery in THIS country! No doubt when I get back the following Friday, the Arctic northerly will be well entrenched across the UK lol.
