I wonder if that little band of precipitation currently near Poole will increase in size as it moves inland?

Who knows? It's currently spitting at me, though.

18z WRF shows a lot of MUCAPE building by 5 am so I think I’m going to stay up and see what happens.

I wouldn't, sleep is more important than fatigue radar watching. Keep windows open and if anything happens, it will likely wake you up.

Shame the cells behind the main rain were in the large part not thundery but I didn't expect anything tonight, fairly poor by the Met Office, they seemed too confident on storms and the backtrack on the website and the backtrack in the forecasts yet still mentioned the S word was fairly amusing.

I noticed T500s drop by a few degrees as well in the next few hours so maybe that will help having an increased lapse rate.

Late morning looks very interesting anyway before the Wind veers and takes me out of the game.

Can’t sleep even if I wanted to anyway now.

Some heavy showers developed over the channel for a time but it looks like it's all quiet there again now. Tomorrow night looks potentially more interesting here but we'll see.

I think it changed about a year ago. It’s a few hours now I think.  I imagine it was so people like RJS could edit say the CET competition tables after all entries were placed.

The latest Met text forecasts suggest that tonight’s “thundery rain” will be further west. Take this for Nw England.

Today:

Mostly dry to start, but a further pulse of heavy, thundery rain is expected to push up from the south during the day. Feeling very humid, especially in any brightness, with just light winds. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Tonight:

Drier for a time, ahead of another area of thundery rain set to arrive by the end of the night. Staying warm and muggy overnight. Minimum temperature 14 °C.

I’ll be down in the SE tomorrow. At the moment not sure exactly where. Drop a message nearer the time and if we’re in the same area can meet up maybe

It’ll be the lifting of the humid air mass that kicks it off nearer the time - so i don’t think the BOB stuff is important

Sferic just now 02:53.  Sounded a bit closer maybe 100 miles.

Vlitz puts it 63 miles North of me. Oh well.

ideally you want to to be east of the action and try for somewhere with a NW view. Western edge will be the heaviest rain and that just spoils everyone’s fun

I fell asleep with the light on and it woke me up about 15 mins ago, so I had a little look at the radar...

I crashed into bed around half 12 being hopeful that whatever would be happening between then and now would at least wake me up but RADAR confirms that I wasn't missing out on anything, peering through the window that looks East seeing what mid-level structure is still around and the skies are clearing up under the early morning twilight. Hopefully the clearing skies and early sunrise will get to work on building the CAPE soon enough.

Lots of distant sferics just started now very frequent but around 100–150 miles away.

Oh no my mistake 53 miles to the north. I’ve got one every five seconds and increasing in frequency.
