Well that was my first great lightning fix of the season here in Kent last night. Here's to plenty more to come!

Some real storm porn beginning to come into ever more reliable medium term timeframes on the main models now.

The main arrival of the possible next plume looks to set in on Monday, on what could be a very interesting flight over France late Monday morning for me back into the UK! The 06z GFS output has churned out a crazy run, with storms just about possible any time between Monday and Friday!

Last night could just be the start of things to come. What a turnaround it could be, on what has been a pretty mediocre storm season for many so far.

Loving the photos and videos of last night by the way. Well done to all that witnessed and captured it, and those who were able to chase!

Indeed - the oracle (mobile app lol) going for generally cloudy conditions but with maxima of 26C and minima of 18C (cue rancid sleeping conditions lol)...strikes me as excruciatingly humid (yuk) and thundery (yay). Let’s see whether it comes to fruition.

Yikes! Gorgeous shots there @Stormhog. You’d be forgiven for thinking you were under an elevated mesocyclone there (if there is technically such a thing). It’s fair to say I think we were lucky none of last night’s storms did become surface based as all the evidence (including the amazing shots from Suffolk yesterday) indicates they would have turned really quite severe!

The term "storm porn" is pretty common in it's usage nowadays, and it's meaning is quite clear to most, though I accept, not all. We are all adults here (or so I'm led to believe), and even if the term is not part of our regular vocabulary, I'm sure we can use the context to understand it's intended meaning.

Also, please report anything you find offensive or off topic. Cheers!

This is what is currently anticipated by GFS (06z run) for Monday through to Wednesday next week.

At 5-7 days ahead this is still too early to start getting excited over, but worth keeping an eye over the coming days to see if the trend continues. The extreme CAPE/LI by UK standards indicates very unstable air and while ordinarily you'd expect it to gradually lower (assuming the overall synoptic setup remains largely similar) it would still offer the potential for storms which could blow last night out of the park, with low pressure and a strong jet (for the time of year) very close by (albeit not overlapping much of the instability) and no doubt throwing some destabilisers (eg troughs) in to the picture too.

Least atm these look more widespread. Better to have a Week time frame than 2 weeks but guess time will tell. Last night could just be a tease of what's to come hopefully

Had a totally amazing night, I left home in Buckinghamshire and decided to head down to hastings and camber sands at around 8pm last night, I got there at 10.30pm and the storm was amazing, the lightning was out of this world and the wind was so strong, not to mention the hail. Certainly one of the best storms I've seen in a while. I love heading to the south coast and witnessing the French imports.

Sounds fantastic! Well worth the journey. I just wish that these events affect much more of the country, like they used to.

Apologies if off topic but just watched the BBC weather forecast and it looks like after high pressure takes place over the UK, low pressure will be creeping in from the west on Monday.

Is this of any interest or is it just your standard wet weather?

Hi Josh, see posts above. Yes fairly typical, a setup usually responsible for bringing our warmer/hotter weather and in particular (but not always) Spanish Plumes - humid/thundery weather. Potential for this next week but subtle changes could lead to a big difference in terms of warm/dry vs warm/humid/thundery.

Always good to see......some great photos and videos of last nights lightning show...truely one of Mother natures gifts

Nice to see some High Pressure over the country for the first time this month, which in turn will lead to clearer nights.

This will give us all a chance to see another one of MN`s natural phenomena....Noctilucent couds (NCLs)...which for anyone who is not aware are at record setting sightings this year.

Slightly of topic but just a heads up...

Tonight....Northern skies 12-4am

any photos or reaction

Yes how often does it feel more humid after thunderstorms than what it did before. Usually the other way round.

Yes it did feel slightly humid yesterday but you can really feel it today even with it being quite gloomy all day so far. Just a shame there’s no storms likely here today as it feels ripe for it.

If anyone didn't see any lightning activity last night (including me), then keep your eyes peeled for next week (Monday-Thursday). A thunderstorm outbreak is likely then.

If that doesn't get you excited, then temperatures next week could soar up to 30 DEGREES...

Or 40°c+ if that crazy GFS run from yesterday came off.
