Am I the only person seeing the storms erupting in Essex/Suffolk...great indication of the potential that is available (and I’m not sure if the instability generating those storms was modelled).

The Met Office radar forecast did go for some small storms in that area so it was spot on. However that storm over France may be a bit further west then forecast?

So may be a bit more widespread then the storm just clipping Dover.

Edit Also lightning further North into the channel so definitely a good sign.

Next cell forming - will be interesting to see if the channel/UK cooler air kills them during next hour.

Absolutely tipping down in here Wrexham NE Wales but nothing electrical with it at the moment. Not expecting anything really to be honest though.

I always had my thoughts it would be centralised over East Sussex/ West Kent and then head NE from there. Obvs it will cover a footprint to the west and east of this, but the spread of this for me was the contentious issue.

Looks like it could be quite a wide system

Cells popping up SW of IOW now.

There is nothing SW of the IOW, strong cell fired 5miles south of Bognor. This is now clearly restricted east of a line Pompey, Central London, Norwich.

Yes it did, but it died very quickly again.    Lack of warmth over UK could be a factor tonight

Blitzortung shows that Caen storm to be flashing like a Christmas tree. Must be some nice lightning out there!

It’s nothing to do with surface temps now, it’s an elevated plume.

It would appear Worthing is just outside the firing line, and the good stuff will be east of Brighton.

still might pop to the beach later to see some lightning.

Do I see something happening in the English Channel?

Halfway through typing that, 5 strikes appeared there.

I know but we are still in daylight hours so there is some surface based heating also there.

See what happens between now and 11pm if they keep going until they reach UK then the elevated will survive longer

The live webcam from leHavre shows some good cloud structures but perhaps too far from the storms for lightning. There also seems to be a biblical plague of flies in the area: https://www.lehavretourisme.com/en/live-webcam

There’s no surface heating over the channel and cells just popped of the coast, clearly all elevated.
