Not necessarily, many times in these situations small cells begin to appear this side of the channel then merge together as the instability moves over land from the south coast.

Very true, would never rule that out completely, especially any convection that forms in the mid layers. But from model data, this set up is relying on imports and the daytime heating over Northern France. Usually we have a good dose of heat on our side of the channel to aid convection, this time we do not.

Can I just ask a question. I live near Aylesbury Bucks and according all the weather sites including Netweather we are due NO Thunder Storm here, however then I read other posts and we are?

Could anyone of you lovely people who know about weather enlighten me so I can prepare my boy who has a massive fear.

Thank you so much for any help.

Also worth adding the dew points over N. France have been rising in the past 2 hours, some places have risen nearly 5°C since 4pm.

Late April 2001 and September 2014 were proceeded by pretty cool days.

Same in 2016 I remember correctly. Didn't feel remotely warm until about 7pm

Wasn't Asperatus designated as a new cloud name during a campaign by the Cloud Appreciation Society, rather than a change of cloud name? Whatever the nomenclature technicalities it is a beautiful cloudscape to have - we often get it over our valley before a storm (or someone else's storm).

We're at the foot of the Chilterns and get it before we brew their storms for them

I'm actually feeling a bit chilly! Mind you that might be rapid cooling after dealing with a massive beech hedge this afternoon.....

Someone doubting the event is a classic sign that the event will happen.

I guess it really depends on location. I had highs of around 23°C, but the dew points around 18°C at around 6pm. I remember in that event the humid air made much better ingress than today, but could of just been confined to coastal areas?

Most of those are false strikes apart from the two near Calais.

Like me you're in a low risk area. It is a risk and well the weather is very unpredictable. I'd be prepared just in case. I myself am autistic but I'm the total opposite to your son, I love thunderstorms. It's better to be prepared and get nothing then get massive storm unprepared.

Has anyone see that crazy GFS run for next week. It has the 25°c Isotherm pushing through the UK next week. That would get temperatures up to 40°c+ if that came off. Just imagine the break down after temperatures like that.
