Well, that’s the last of our connectivity heading off towards the Manchester area.

Although today didn’t really produce much for me, I did see one flicker of the sky just as I was getting in the car to head off to work, and a few very distant grumbles of thunder from that storm over Rhyl, I ain’t complaining. After all, it is only the start of the season, so here’s to many more thundery outbreaks throughout the summer, and into the autumn. ☀️?️?️⛈️:drinks:

Not a bad couple of days convection for the time of the year, some of the cells went up quickly on both days and not a bad start to the year

hear is the clip of the storm that developed quiet quickly looking at the radar(within 15 minutes from nothing on the radar to thundering)

ok it's not the best storm that i and others would of seen but it is better than nothing and as with the nature of showers they are hit and miss

enjoy

got a snapshot of the IC AT 3:26

Good job they weren't bigger or I would have been putting an insurance claim for a car respray.

Could tell they were massive i could hear them bouncing off the shed roof.

Any bigger and  i think they could have done damage to greenhouses and cars.

Not the best of pictures due to the low light, but these are currently 60-65 miles away to the north-west of Ripon/Harrogate:

@reef I was driving home into the storm and saw the lightning over the Wolds from the M62 near Howden. Missed the worst (best!) but watched it back-build to the SE then head out into the N Sea. I agree, better than any storm last year and I missed the arcus!

Day 2 Convective Outlook

VALID 06:00 UTC Fri 26 Apr 2019 - 05:59 UTC Sat 27 Apr 2019

ISSUED 20:44 UTC Thu 25 Apr 2019

ISSUED BY: Chris

A deepening area of low pressure will spread across Ireland and into western Britain during Friday afternoon and evening. This will bring with it an area of unsettled weather, including heavy showers, and more especially some strong winds/gales across southern parts of Ireland and southwestern parts of Britain.

Before the low moves into Britain, a trough will move eastwards across central and eastern areas during the early afternoon, and help to generate up to 200 J/kg of CAPE producing a marginally unstable environment. Scattered heavy showers will develop and while lightning is not expected to be widespread, it cannot be ruled out. This risk likely lasts from around 12z to 18z before diminishing as the low pressure to the west moves nearer.

As the low crosses Ireland and into western Britain later on Friday and into Friday night, some cold upper level temperatures and strong shear (both low level and deep layer) will also generate heavy showers, perhaps in line-segments. Strong convective gusts are possible, and perhaps the main risk with this event, however again, lightning cannot be ruled out.  Given the strongly sheared environment, the very small risk of a tornado will be present, mainly into SW England during the late evening/early morning hours.

Just had an amazing storm here with frequent lightning, heavy pea-sized hail and a rain rate of 82mm/hr. Quite an impressive drop in temperature too, down to 7.4c now.

Unfortunately I missed it as I was over in Manchester yesterday, just saw the tail end as it went out over the North Sea as I got home. My wife took some photos, plenty of CC flashes and a few CG's, power went off 3 times, and pea or a bit bigger sized hail. Heavy rain which caused surface water flooding on all the usual vulnerable spots. Best storm at home for a couple of years, and I miss it. Had a few flashes and some rain in Manchester around 5, but nothing spectacular

Today almost a carbon-copy of yesterday in terms of affected areas where I expect to see anything particularly substantial. Risk transferring from West to East through the afternoon. Red area in Ireland is experimental, gonna have my eye on that area earlier on in the period.

That's an insane shot for the UK.

The Bridlington storm showed signs of being a right-mover didn't it?

Mini Quasi linear convective system by the looks of it. Not bad for a day of April showers!

That wouldn't surprise me looking at that.
