Meteor Explosion in Earth's Atmosphere

Is it possible there's a link to the SSW that occurred in December 2018 and this story?

Quote

A huge fireball exploded in the Earth's atmosphere in December, according to Nasa.

The blast was the second largest of its kind in 30 years, and the biggest since the fireball over Chelyabinsk in Russia six years ago.

But it went largely unnoticed until now because it blew up over the Bering Sea, off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.

The space rock exploded with 10 times the energy released by the Hiroshima atomic bomb.

Lindley Johnson, planetary defence officer at Nasa, told BBC News a fireball this big is only expected about two or three times every 100 years

Even though it's a relatively large event surely there wouldn't be enough energy in it to create a SSW?

That said it was initially a displacement rather than a full SSW proper, so maybe could have been influential rather than causal?

It had no effect whatsoever. The total energy released was less than a quarter of that released by an average hurricane in one second. There was a similar discussion regarding the larger Chelyabinsk event in February 2013 and in terms of atmospheric energetics the values are miniscule, but some still seemed unconvinced. Simply examining temperatures from radiosonde readings from the nearest stations show no deviation at the time of airburst at 25.6 km altitude (roughly the 20mb level).

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
