Just having a look around the new version and I like it. Something I use that is either missing or so well hidden that I can't find it is the radar opacity. There used to be an option to change that & I tended to use it a lot.  Is it still there or making a comeback please?

So it is! I'd ignored that icon as I thought it was a "cast to tv" type thing lol, cheers Paul!

We've just added a much requested feature to the V8 radar - you can now choose to display country outlines above the rain:

Another much requested feature has just gone live today (and when I say much requested, I mean THE most requested).

There is now the option to view a smoothed version of the radar in the display settings:

This genuinely looks beautiful, or as beautiful as a radar image return can look! Thanks Paul, you guys are knocking this new version out of the park!

Think this really highlights the differences well - it's thundery showers overnight near to the channel isles.

And with the new smoothed view

could we get a new radar scale added at some point maybe?

No, we've no plans for additional scales at this point I'm afraid. There are already 3 available.

I have just noticed something, but i'm questioning myself now as to whether something has changed or not..

Using the traditional scale, white = 0

Didn't white indicate the heaviest precip echoes?

We've upgraded the UKV overlays on the V8 radar, making them a lot nicer to look at, better when zoomed in + we've added a funky new animated wind stream option on there. They're selectable from the overlays menu on the left.

We'll be adding scales to the page within the next few days, as obviously they're not too informative without them, but we thought they'd be worth dropping on there in the meantime. We'll also be adding more options to the list over the coming days and weeks.

The V8 radar is being built to become the app, and that'll be available on both ios and android, probably within the next few weeks.

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
