Can’t sleep so think I am going to stay awake and see what happens, looking at the radar Leeds may be about to take a direct from the monster over the peaks!

2nd storm of the year although  after promising a lot loads of lightning and thunder as it approached the lightning stopped within minutes of it arriving. However the storm had split and the 2nd section provided direct hit with nice loud thunder and a steady lightning display.

So the rain dance worked

Glad you got something PIT

Had some v heavy rain here for a while around 4am and about 7 flashes I counted, some thunder but don't think we got the main bit in Rotherham.

What's our chances today, tonight and tomorrow looking like?

Hope it’s Leeds’ turn tonight, we have always been slightly too far north/west for all of the major action. Last night we just got some steady rain and a distant rumble. I’m guessing the North West will become southern Florida yet again tonight though! .

On holiday in Whitby and currently sat under a cold sea fret. Is there any way of predicting when it will lift please?

Sis-in-Law said there has been heavy rain, thunder and lightning in Hull in the last half hour and a radar check shows a couple of cells moving NE. We are under the sea fret in Bempton, but at least its keeping temps down. Dont know how it will affect storm cells moving in

Just logged back on .. had a few thunder rumbles and the merest spots of rain.
Think it has passed over now, blue sky incoming.

Quite a few people missed te storm in sheffield. It really died back quite a bit on reaching here. However it survivedd the sheffield shield and punched trough. Busy at work so haven't see any forecasts for today.

It was interesting viewing it from Ecclesfield. It looked biblical as it approached but not long after the rain started the electrical activity stopped quite abruptly. The approach was more than worth it but I was happy to see smaller cells develop after 3am and track more directly over here. Decent rain rates and some good thunder at it's peak.

Given I was expecting a reasonably distant lightshow at best it turned out pretty well. Like you say though a fair few missed it, going by the comments on my page.

It was like a switch being flicked almost constant lightning then zippo.

From what I can see from convective weather and BBC weather forecast we are out of the loop tonight time for some wrongness in our favour for once. Convective weather got it bang on as well.

Can’t believe this entire spell of weather is going to end with a single distant rumble of thunder being the only thing of note.

Words fail me.

But, as we say here in the Triangle of Doom... better distant than non-existent!

Keep the faith cheese. I find gfs 0-24h precipitation charts quite good in situations like these. latest 12z charts is massive improvement on 6z and has showers (storms exploding over our region in due coarse.

Our window of opportunity is now til 3am. We have bags of time.

The gap of no storms which were in, seems to be getting smaller towards the south and west of our region. Could see some develop soon in these areas. Looks poor for east of the region. Watch otley where I've moved from get hammered later...

I'm curious to see if we'll get anything storm wise. It's been so long since the last decent one that flooded the back street and caused a power cut.
