The Northern end of that band will not push much further Eastwards now but the Southern end will continue to swing up from the SW in a North Easterly direction meaning that the band will eventually be

Radar showing showers turning back to Snow (reds) from Sleet (greens)

Lets hope they really get going as temps have started dropping back down again and give us a bit of a covering for tomorrow morning at least ?

We can hope, but they are losing intensity quickly as they approach Rotherham at the moment so I'm not too hopeful.

Don't forget the precipitation type radars are not real, they are model projections of what conditions can support snow so are often wrong. Only the position of the precipitation is correct.

Right tyres right car Snow what snow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oh5Ajfes-0M

That quattro was still spinning up even on winter tyres and the main road was virtually clear of snow. I'd like to see him do a few miles in proper deep snow (6-12"), would likely build up under the sump guard and he'd lose traction.

If you want the right car with the right tyres for snow then you need our old Land Rover on snow tyres ??

That was 8-12" deep back in 2010 on our main road. The clearance under the front diff is 11". Tyres are 33" diameter.

why are they retaining intensity further north but not here.

Showers seem to be on a more north to south track to the earlier east to west, having to cover more land they tend to die out by time they reach here.

my eyes still seem to show NE/SW but even so still traveling over more land so yes dying out

Thing is, it really is like polystyrene balls! Not like the proper snowflakes we had last week (wet, heavy and from the west). These are dry, light and from the east. Think I preferred the wet snow as it built up faster and deeper (although our poor gazebo would argue otherwise after it collapsed under the weight after I forgot to fold the cover back)

I know what you mean, I think some people call it soft hail.

It’s called graupel

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graupel

yeah, that's the stuff. We are at quite a low elevation though and from reading that link it says is more common at higher elevations. Not even that cold here, +1.1c at the moment although it is falling. Not seen graupel here that often, we normally get either proper snow or just sleet.

Looks like one last hurrah for us is coming. Well I hope. temp down to 0.2C.

I wouldn't give up hope just yet, the attached picture is from 26th March 2013, we got 8-10" of snow here and it stayed on the ground for a couple of days. We still have a fair bit of winter left to run yet ?

I guess you are just too far inland to have got much from last weeks snow event? We got 4" last week taking us up to 6 days of laying snow here this winter. I think we are in a sweet spot, on the southern edge of the humber bank (north wolds). While not exactly a high hill, the humber bank tends to attract the snow from the streamers coming down the humber ?

I think this is the 7th winter in last 10 we've had decent snowfall for at least a couple of days.

Should be a direct hit for you that but I think I am just too far West given the change in wind direction to a more Northerly.  Good luck!  :oldgood:?

Be amazing if it is. Cheers mate!

But looks like we're all going to get in on the action soon. Look at this energy transferring northwards.

I swear this area is cursed. Yet again when its cold enough for the snow to have a chance of laying there's a massive gap on the radar.

It doesn't seem to matter whether its a SE, E or NE flow, always happens nowadays. Truly frustrating!

Keep watching those showers south of the Humber out to sea. Energy is transferring northwards if you go back an hour
