Rain the main story here pushing the month over 100mm no doubt. Considering the first half the month was very dry quiet a contrast.

Fairly quiet here as well just to close to the storm with stronger winds to the south of us.

Bit of a non event in Wakefield in terms of the wind - plenty of rain though.

A bit windier overnight but nothing really bad top gust of 38 mph. Rainfall wise it brought it 29.2mm of rain so noteworthy of that. This brought the total for the month to 103.4mm. Consider we only had only 9.8mm by the 14th it;s really been soggy since then. One thing that did surprise me that the river Lathekill wasn't running from Lathekill head cave and this is despite all the recent rain. I have however noticed that as I've been growing up it's been flowing less and less frequently from this point and in some years doesn't even flow all winter if it's a dry winter. Perhaps sometime soon it will cease altogether as it no doubt erodes other paths making it easier to appear lower down.

Today could bring some more rain to boost the figures up. Been looking at the short range forecasts UKV impressed me yesterday with it's prediction of a line of showers. Generally I tend to find the short range models not very good. At the moment only the UKV is close to the local forecast the rest a more showery outlook. We shall see how close they get..

Just checked the UKV and it looking like it's going to get this evening right as well. The netwx-mr seems to be on the ball while the netwx-sr is oh dear.

Heavy rain this morning, cleared for a bit late morning, now a strong northerly wind and heavy rain, and cold, 13C, more like November than August

Still raining hard, now down to 11C, and wind has picked up to a near gale. Worst August day for many years. Given in and lit woodburner.

I don’t blame you. It’s like an October day today isn’t it

Not much better today, rain is less heavy and showery but otherwise dark, cold and a near gale.

Absolutely horrendous conditions in Bridlington for the last 48 hours.  Over 35mm of rainfall., very strong northerly winds and very cold feel for the end of August.  This really is exceptionally poor for the time of year.

Yes we live 4 miles up the coast about 1.5 miles from the cliffs, sheets of rain have been blowing past all day. Saw some very fed up looking campers at Cayton this morning, looks like they had spent the night in their cars,  we went past at about 7 this morning.

Truly horrendous quite frankly for 48 hours now. I mean how often do you get 50 mm of rain in Scarborough in a 24 hour period (and a strong northerly wind also at the same time).

Nice on top this morning at Longshaw in the peak district. Not to windy and with sunny spells. Clouded up in Sheffield by lunchtime with a few light showers this turning into light rain by mid afternoon. Now light rain again after a brief pause. The rain much further west than modelled against that the wind much less. Cold day though first time in a long time I added the fleece to my coat. The rain isn't going to add much to months total.

Nice to be able to report three lovely sunny days on holiday on the North Yorkshire coast although the rain has now arrived as forecast.

...and it poured overnight although a bright morning as we left Yorkshire.

Today marks the 7th anniversary of the storm which resulted in floods in Saltburn-by-the Sea on the North Yorkshire coast and points inland and further north. Some dramatic footage on YouTube as two cars were swept away and homes had to be evacuated. A major cause of the flooding was a high tide colliding head-on with a raging beck coming down from Skelton into the sea and flooding the car park and surrounding area. Rain was forecast but not that heavy. I was further south at Whitby that afternoon, and although I got soaked by the rain, there were no flooding problems there. Both Saltburn and Whitby (and elsewhere on the coast) were badly affected by a storm surge just three months later.

Looking at the Radar there seems to be some very heavy rain to the south of us, to the west and north of Hull. Whites and reds on the precipitation rate colours.

That dumped over 10mm on us in a very short time. Its actually been quite a dry September so far, though like last year that seems to have come to an abrupt end.
