Sleet then hail some fairly large then a pause then more sleet turning more to rain as the humidity shot up. Winds died away here so not a squall. Now passed through but good while it lasted.

The 10 day forecast on this website (which is just the GFS output) has scared me, its showing over 170mm of rain for here over than next 10 days. It won't happen as its GFS, but it shows we are most likely going to keep getting an absurd amount of rain.

Stonker of a hail shower just now with bits of snow. Loud enough that I could hear inside and turned everything white.

Just had it here in Garforth, white over with hail and some big winds with it! Very impressive!

The showers should become wintry as the evening progresses, wouldn't rule out falling snow to low levels if intensity is there.

A great example of a rain shadow on the radar currently.

Indeed, a few spots in the air but otherwise nothing. Long live the Pennines.

Not as dramatic as the MetO rainfall Radar makes out but still a mad few minutes as that squall passed over us here in the Upper Calder Valley!

I think the hail core sends back brighter echoes so the 'white stripe' in the plot was not as bad as I've seen such bring over summer when no hail is involved?

Stay safe folks!!!

MetO Rainfall Radar shows us under 'oranges/deep oranges' yet we have hazy sunshine and blowing drizzle???

Anyone else seeing similar in their region?

I'm obviously 'jumpy' about a day of heavy rain but of this is what passes as 'heavy rain' I'll take it!

Another pronounced rain shadow today. Maybe the rain warnings are for flooding due to water flowing downstream?

Edit: yes, their warning states heavy rain over hills.

Yeah we're right on the edge in Barnsley. We've got a mixture of sunny skies with occasional drizzle. I'll take that ☔

It looks very 'orographic' in nature?

The run up to the Peaks/Pennines seems to be taking the biggest hit but then, by the time you're over the tops of the Pennines, you're entering the 'rain shadow'

Run the rainfall radar and you can see this in operation?

Please let that be the back edge just clearing the Fylde now!

The river is now picking up so we don't need much more of this!

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
