Does my memory serve me right in thinking, the only lying snow I remember last Winter was a Friday night and then all gone by the Saturday morning ? Just can’t see this Winter being worse than last or can it!!

Snow several times but never had a cover to measure at the time of recording. We also had the extremely embarrassing forecast of heavy Snow for the 15th December and what we got was icy mix of freezing rain or just rain instead

Close to the East coast here, but the gales from storm Brendan are howling and pretty lively already.
The wheelie bin has just gone over.
Take care all.

Just had a squall pass through with hail. Looked like a hurricane for about 2 minutes.

Yeh the squall passed through here but the winds eased back as it chucked it down. Had a short rain rate of 101mm per hour. Another lesser one yesterday just after six once again. Interestingly we haven't recorded very high winds and the lack of broken twigs of trees backs that observation up.

Interesting charts cropping up in the model thread. Notably as 25th January marks 25 years of the Great Yorkshire Dump.

I'm sure the charts are teasing us.....

GFS suggesting a cold day for next Tuesday some some areas may see some white stuff which isn't frost for once. Just in the reliable time frame as well. Why don't I believe it. I suspect because of the sudden change from yesterday.

Still a chance of some Snow on the higher ground this Tuesday and possibly Wednesday night. Away from high ground I'm afraid you'll have to wait for Feb.

Looking a bit delayed today as the cold uppers stay to the north west until Tuesday. Most likely places West and Northern Yorkshire. Beeb going on about Sunday night into Sunday morning which I believe is related to a trough of low pressure. However things don't look very good so I would be surprised if anything at all out of that feature. For me Monday night into Tuesday morning looks much better but even that is on the marginal side. Thats also if the secondary low actually comes into being and takes the route shown.

So basically don't get your hopes up to much Sundays night run should tell us more and firm up on the details.

Oh,

25 years ago today. The still unbeaten (in E Leeds) snowfall I refuse to let history forget. It has remainded the reference point for snowfall since.

Don't think we will get  a repeat somehow. I can't even remember the event either Apparently we had 14cm of Snow 5 1/2 inches Rainfall content was 48mm so pretty wet stuff.

There was a write up on the forum:

The area I live got about 48cm of snow, I remember it vividly as it was a rainy Tuesday afternoon, slowly turning to sleet as I was walking on a paper round. Sleet got heavier going back to the shop and when I got out, heavy snow. It stopped around 9pm, I noticed how deep it was straight away as the chimneys looked so smaller with how much snow was on roofs. Other areas higher up where it turned earlier got over 70cm of snow I believe. The thaw happened from Friday. I'd have to either crawl up a pile of snow to deliver papers or look up and be quick if there was no mound of snow....

I was Uni when this happened which explains why I have mostly no memory of it as it would have been a normal walk home at lunch time followed by a walk in next morning. I do recall a friend commenting about people driving like numpties next morning so it would be this event. Nothing like waking up on the 1st Dec 2010 with 4 foot drifts on the road outside though.

A feeble attempt at Winter coming up for two days. The lack of cold uppers will probably confine any Snow to the peak district tonight  that's if the showers survive the journey. The one that isn't been mentioned is Monday night Tuesday morning where we have some cold uppers and on today's run they are tied in better with precipitation much better so I wouldn't be surprised too see Snow falling to lower levels briefly and more widely before they move away. Unlikely to be any covering away from the moors but to see a snowflake would be nice.
