Thankfully according to the bbc this afternoon’s rain isn’t expected to cause any further flooding so at least that’s a small crumb of comfort for the residents of fish lake. And it also showed areas where the flood water had dropped by 2-3ft in some areas.

According to the latest rainfall radar.

On the website www.raintoday.co.uk Sheffield looks like its getting its fair share of heavy rain. As is much of west and south Yorkshire.

And the North Midlands suffering too once again - i.e Mansfield where I am has had heavy-ish/moderate rain for most of the day and is now torrential and has been very heavy for around an hour - and looking at the radar there is an awful lot more to come.

Moved away from here for now it maybe staying to the south of us. The band didn't successfully merge.

Yes the main area of rain seems focused just south of Sheffield and right over us in a line from say Derby to just north of Grimsby... which stubbornly is refusing to move further north at the moment.

Don't speak too soon, the band has intensified in the worst possible place... just east of Doncaster. Radar looks horrendous. The main band is ebbing and flowing in intensity. Luck of the draw now whether you cop a lighter spell of rain or a deluge.

Looks like very heavy rain is approaching Sheffield now and other areas that definitely don't need it

So dark here and absolutely pouring down, even hailstones at times.
At least a quarter of an inch to add to the totals so far today.

B.

Edit :  And a big flash and thunder now !

Yes definitely ebbing and flowing with the torrential rain first just north of me, then over me, then just south and then back over and north etc

Heavy rain has now returned and is turning to sleet as temperatures drop.

Current rate is 2.2 mm per 15 minute=8.8 per hour with Davis showing 10.8 mm as the heaviest at 1430; not yet updated since but suspect it will be higher when it does; total so far is 12.4 mm since this morning.

Absolutely hammering it down still in Mansfield, no let up and looking at the radar still a lot more to come. Also turning very occasionally to sleety stuff but then reverting back to rain. When will it stop?

We had a massive clap of thunder here with heavy rain which turned to ice pellets / hail for a time as the temperature quickly dropped to 3.1C. Now back up to 4.8C but another heavy burst incoming. Already had 17.4mm so far!

Serious question. When will the rain stop around Mansfield - all previous forecasts now out of the window as the rain is intensifying (if that was possible) for us yet the overall area of rain is shrinking.

Just passed the 25mm mark for today and it's still coming down heavily. We've also topped 100mm for the month so its the first time three consecutive months have had more than 100mm for us since my records began in 1980.

Heavy sleet with 11.8mm now. Temp 2.7C falling slowly will it get low enough to turn to snow?

It is now also the wettest autumn in our records here.

Hello from the other side.

Its just as vile here in Hadfield although we haven't the flooding (yet) that you are suffering.

Heavy rain with a sleety element to it and some very string wind gusts curtesy of the Pennines.

My wife said there was some thunder earlier this afternoon but nothing showed up on the storm radar. At first I wondered if it was something else but Beverley Lass also has also reported thunder and lightning We are about 25 miles from Beverley so obviously some convection in the rain band.

Now up to 35mm and we aren't even in the MetOffice yellow warning zone. I think the rain has been further north than forecast.
