Emergency crews are working at "full capacity" to clear the floodwater in Sheffield with more rain forecast.

It's flooded there because the council hadn't cleared the culvert out from graves park for several months.

The River Don at Meadowhall is approaching the 2007 record.

my current total is 60.6 mm beating my previous highest 24 hour total of 58.7 mm 25 June 2007, the Sheffield-Doncaster floods. Sadly I suspect some of the same areas may be affected again.

It is still chucking it down, 1.8 mm per 15 min; UK Met 'heavy' is defined as > 3.9 mm per hour.

Well after this the council are going to get pasted over not clearing gullies again. Ours are now fairly clear now with the leaves washed away into the drains no doubt blocking the ones that weren't blocked. It's a pity that once ten years is passed they think they can pull back on gully clearing once more.

Just read that South Yorkshire Police are advising anyone in Meadowhall to stay and camp it out!

Going to be grim for those who do given flood defences were likely built with 2007 in mind and this is going to go significantly beyond it going on the radar.

Unless they've significantly boosted flood defences at Meadowhall since 2007, it looks like the river Don will be making a big entrance into the shopping centre shortly

From videos I've seen on Twitter it looks like the River Don is just a few cm away from overtopping a wall near Meadowhall and causing chaos...

If Sheffield hasn't suffered enough today, looking northeast the radar doesn't look pretty

This is looking very very grim. Why the complete lack of news coverage. If it was the South East it would be the main story. Very poor I have to say from the press. Also if this wasn't a red alert I don't know what is. How is it not? What does it have to be to go red?

Just rescued the rain gauge. Since 6:45 this morning we've had 61.1mm of rain. That takes us above 100mm already and it's still raining.

This Autumn so far has produced 396.2mm of rain.

What's your thoughts on 2007 comparisons what you expecting? Met office have underestimating this. It's widely above 50mm

Met office quoted up to 100mm so not underestimated although perhaps it should now be red considering the impact.

A lot more rain than we had on the day when it actually flooded in 2007 however the month itself was extremely wet before the event. A similar level of neglect has crept back with the council in regards to keeping the drains clear which is why Heeley bridge flooded and Woodseats round Cobnar road. Come to that I haven't seen the dredger in the sheaf lately so it's possible that they have also started neglecting the rivers again.

See the link below for the 2007 stats.

Now take a look at

so there is some similarity with the rainfall overall. The way the front has stalled is very similar as well.

So judging by the farts Jacob Reese-Mogg was blurting out with regards to Grenfell the other day, should there be a mass evacuation going on there?

Not quite, but it does look pretty awful over Sheffield - 80mm is a hell of  lot of rainfall for a city that hasn't managed its land use properly (e.g cutting down of trees, residents paving their front lawns and anomalous rainall patterns overwhelming many of its rivers) it's not really all that surprising

Problem is with severe weather, you can't always tell far enough in advance where its going to be so as to give you the planning time to get there or book hotels etc, at the moment i havent the money for chases anyway but it is always so hard.

Looks like they built the flood defences to the last flood level, now that has been hit they are being topped.

Hate too say this but they should have looked at the rainfall records and gone ermmm we need to build them higher.

Looks like the River Sheaf is going to breach it's record levels. Very heavy rain coming down around Woodseats still
