Having a scan around and think Meadowhall could be in for difficulties again. It flooded in 2007 and while the EA doesn't publish their prediction for the site near it, they do for one of the brooks feeding it; at that brooks station (Sheffield Wincobank) in 2007 it reached 2.41M, EA are estimating that site will peak tonight at 3.31M.

Mostly moderate rain here the odd heavy bursts and also the odd light spell total rainfall so far 39 mm so chasing down the year rainfall in June 2007 of 44.8mm. A long way to a Hundred millimeter but don't be surprised if we pass 60 mm with ease.

The river sheaf is halfway deep towards the levels reached in 2007 in places.

If anyone has any flooding photos (landscape is best) we can use them. Roads, signs, transport

Heavy rain is causing problems with river and surface water flooding this lunchtime. East Midlands, Yorkshire and other parts of northern England.

Rain seems to be easing a bit now in places and the strip of heaviest rain is becoming narrower... might help some places escape the worst. However, some other places getting heavier bursts too.

South Yorkshire certainly looks like taking the brunt of the rain and flooding to come later. Already reports of roads underwater in Sheffield, schools closing and homes flooded in Whiston after the brook there reached levels of 2.26m.

The sheaf is one of the fastest rising rivers and falling rivers in the UK. Once it stops or even eases raining the levels will start to drop fairly quickly. The Don Rother and others a different story.

I notice Meadowhall is still planning to go ahead with a 'Christmas Live' event this evening despite the flood warning. Wonder if they might change their minds later... lots of people on social media saying it should be cancelled.

After record rainfall totals here for October (over 6") .. I'm glad that so far we've missed the *heavy* prolonged
rain today.  I can see on the radar I'm on the very north edge of that huge band of rain over the Humber.
See what comes later.

They are under a flood warning.

While Meadowhall itself will have flood defences now (one would hope given the cost in 2007), the routes in and out are likely to be flooded. It does seem a decision made due to money rather than safety.
