Already -4.6C here. Low this morning was -5.3C so good chance of beating that if skies remain clear.

Sorry mate, been busy all-day. I need to plan a bit more for when you are free as my free time is limited to 15 minutes here and 30 minutes there.

Whos the chap in blue?

No worries mate.

That's my long suffering husband who doesn't like the cold but I drag to the hills when there is a sign of snow.

Was hoping to get up lakes today but snowed under with stuff

I AM in the Lakes lots of folk going up on the hills, but I had to stay close to barracks as duty leader this weekend. Complicated by my mother falling at her care home in Dalton and ending up with a broken hip. Now in Furness General for the duration with some fancy meccano in her...

Thank god we shelved the idea of taking her sledging!!

No she's in Staveley house, up the hill above the station. She's ok I guess went to see her yesterday, considering she's nearly 82, with advanced Parkinson's she is a tough old bird! She was groggy after a 4 hour op, but was still able to keep the nurses on point!!!

Guy with you on plane ,you never introduced me ,lol

He had gone to pick up our hand luggage when you came over so he was not next to me then.

The guy who was next to me when you came was just another passenger who was very chatty haha

Aye she has a corner room overlooks the pond and the field... best room in the whole gaff I reckon...small lounge next door and a largely glassed in veranda through that. I asked how far in advance can I book, just need a glass of wine and a book!!

From here in Old Glossop the path leads right up into the hills. On the way you will pass Mossy Lee. very scenic and not to hard a walk either.

That's good to know for the next time. Although it doesn't look like it will be soon.

Lakeland fells in full winter splendour today - had the fortune of being able to spend time in them today. Lots of deep powder knee high snow, made for tough going. Snow still lingering in sheltered areas at valley level, indicative of the level of cold that has descended on the Lake District in recent days, even Thirlmere had a bit of ice on it (last year it was frozen over still late March!).

Excellent winter walking conditions, but significant windchill.

Tomorrow unfortunately will bring a thaw, with snow to modest heights, perhaps a bit of sleety wet stuff valley level at first - was hoping we might see a few hours of snow here before turning to rain, but I doubt we will see more than a few snowflakes mixed in with cold wet sleet - quite a miserable prospect.

Outlook for next week very changeable snow reserved only for very highest ground, temps fluctuating, nothing overly mild, but generally quite mild overall.

Hoping we see a return of similar conditions experienced from mid February onwards, often late Feb is the best time for winter fell walking, longer days, generally calmer quieter conditions, with increased chance of northerlies and easterlies bringing sustained cold conditions, but not always...

I'm actually hoping for a snow to rain situation, we've hit the doldrums snow wise in Coniston this far this winter.

Hoping its more than a flash in the pan!
