instability fades overnight so after midnight I think showers will start to get less intense/Widespread unless we can have a trough.

If you have a look at the meto fax charts there is a trough showing this evening/overnight

This will be inline with met office forecast for tonight of more frequent shower activity

Also the winds veering more NW which will bring more southern areas into the shower activity.

And probably take out of the shower activity just when they will be falling more readily as snow.

Plenty of snow showers to be seen over Kinder and Bleaklow, surprisingly Buxton is still snow-free for today when I popped over there along the A6 earlier on.

I think I'd remain optimistic for your locations... there's a trough, an occlusion & a cold front in the mix tonight!

Should support strong shower acvitity during the coldest portion of the night.

Nice layering of hail on the ground after the first heavy shower of the day has passed through here, it went ominously dark for a short time too.

Words than once upon a time you’d never imagine you’d hear in the winter months....Buxton and snow-free.

Eyes out to West Wales for this evening's trough which is currently developing, hoping that the Welsh Mountain's don't eat up what energy it has before it's gotten here.

Had a few heavy hail stone showers today (having one now) some of which left a slushy covering but didn't last too long.  If temps & uppers can dive down to the right side of marginal tonight & showers keep feeding ....there might be a better chance of sleet/hail turning to snow.

Hopefully so, but the northern side of the trough looks to have a spin to it so that might take it further north than forecast.

IOM shower activity picking up at it gathers pace over the Irish - on course for S Lakes.

Wintery showers beefing up -  heading for mid Lancashire.

I can't see that trough in Wales getting here. It is heading for the Midlands.

My eyes are on the intense activity over Ireland.

They always seem to miss us to the south though.

A couple of hail showers in the past hour and more to come looking at the radar. Better than rain I suppose.

Edit: A much more intense hail shower just now has just left a light covering.
