I got some snaps of the same storm over on the convective discussion, thanks to seeing a webcam link showing the lightning beginning to kick off over Leek and promptly sticking my head out the window at 8:30pm seeing what clouds were around, did I realize just how visible it was with it being mid-layered and perfectly situated in a clear zone from the core to see it.

To think I had almost given up on today after hearing only the 2 rumbles from towards New Mills, fortunately anyone else who is also around this area of the Peaks had the 25% chance of storms in our favor.

Chalk and cheese this weekend, hit 23* yesterday, now 7* and a stiff northerly knocking that down further. At least the rain over the lake district is fizzling out before it gets here.

Yes a significant drop in temp, from 21 degrees at 6pm yesterday to 8 degrees now, and this is where it will hold for much of the day, perhaps nudging up to 9 degrees once the cloud breaks this afternoon.

What is notable also is the way the precipitation has broken up as it has crossed the central lakes, north lakes had some decent rainfall looking at the radar, here, we have had a few spits of rain only. Another lengthy dry period has now set in, over the past 2 months we've probably had about 20% of normal average rainfal, compare that to the month before, where we had well over 300%, what a complete contrast. An almighty crash.. has this ever happened?

Yes I'm wondering how much rain we've actually had. I don't have a rain gauge anymore but I think at the most it's only rained about 2 times since the start of April. Can't see any appreciable rain in the near future either.

-2.7C here this morning. A big chunk of nights last Winter was warmer. Although let's face it it really was a diabolical one for cold.

Another chilly day for May, not as cold as yesterday or Sunday, a few very short lived very light drizzly showers around, barely enough to dampen the ground. Another frontal feature about to hit us, weakening as it does so, the theme of recent weeks. Once fronts start coming in from the west, rather than south, north, or east as has been the case since mid March, they will deliver the heavy goods to here.

Despite some decent sunny spells, it felt preety cold today. Maximum of 11 degrees, was still only 9 degrees at 2pm. There was a cover of snow on very highest ground this morning 750 metres + indicative of the cold uppers and the fact we had a burst of moderate precipitation yesterday late evening around 10pm.

Looking further ahead, Sunday looks like delivering our first lengthy spell of rain since mid March.

-2C at MAN/EGCC at 4am.

Browsing the archive data at Wunderground, that's the coldest May night since 1996 at least.

My potatoes don't look too happy, scorched by the frost two nights ago and last night was worse. Hopefully my fruit won't suffer too much, it was looking good for plums, apples and pears this year.

-3.5C here this morning. Looks like it will be a long while until we see a temperature as low as that. October onwards.

A mere 4 weeks from the earliest sunrise too.

Scary.

Not long until we're on the descent again.

Perhaps a classic "two fine days then a thunderstorm?"

The sw airstream is back, and we have the grey gloomy dank stuff surrounding everything. It's been notable by its absence. Ruins the feel of things here, even if it does bring mild.

Looking like any convective action will be too far south. Then again Thursday is a long way off regarding predicting storms, alot can change.  Will be fantastic to get my 3rd storm this year though, been lucky so far. That's the beauty of thunder storms, there is always the element of surprise.

A proper full rain day here, even if the rain was intermittent, nothing especially heavy but very useful. Low cloud has shrouded everything giving a very dull gloomy feel to things, and temps maxed at 13 degrees so it felt cool and preety miserable. Such conditions are very normal under moist westerly airstreams. Tomorrow looks equally cloudy, rain slowly petering out lunchtime but staying cloudy.

Only Wednesday looks a decent day here this week.

May is turning into a very topsy turvy month temperature wise at least, and we could see rainfall totals inching a bit closer to near normal, but will need a fair bit of rain to reach such levels, plausible given the outlook.

While others have had a very wet day today, we’ve been dry and cloudy. We’re desperate for rain now, if only to prevent fires. Got my fingers crossed some of the rain reaches us!

After yesterday’s drizzle fest, this afternoon it has brightened up a little. The morning was still overcast and a bit drizzly, but we’ve had a few sunny intervals and breaks in the cloud this afternoon. It’s been quite a warm, damp and humid feeling afternoon but with a nice refreshing breeze as well.
