Sunset onwards will be the best time, GFS has temps around freezing say 30miles inland by 9pm so anything falling should be snow by this time.

Defo more marginal nearer to  the coast though.

Not to sure on that Liverpool TAF no showing snow Showers overnight also the wind is set to veer more NW later so more southern areas prone to the showers especially the 2nd half of the night.

Aye..

Best bet for coast dwellers is a screaming polar north westerly with uppers of -8/-9 ...

Rare but not unheard of, maybe next winter ..

Yes lovely that - Can't complain - i've had my fill over the years if you've got an hour or two to spare

Still can get to the top of the Kirkstone in under an hour though - bit longer if your following the snowplough.

Heavy snow symbols have appeared on my weather App not seen them for years

No idea if it will happen but nice to see

Yes, same here. I know the apps are automated rubbish, but double snow symbols still make for nice eye candy!

One thing that is noticeable is that it is less windy than it was two weeks ago with that failure. Its a slacker gradient.

Going off  recent times, it seems slacker wind flows are more likely to deliver than strong ones.

As you know I'm a strong believer in this and I mentioned I thought this was why the last potential event failed to deliver. The problem this time is the air isn't as cold as the last time. So although we have a slack flow, T850s are not as good.

I thought the other problem last time was also the lack of precipitation? Didn't the activity in the Irish Sea die a death?

Ok fair enough. From what I saw it didn't look as good although I tend to use the WRF.

Backing Matt Hugo post - yes radar has the active cold front over Ireland on an E to SE flow - lots of sleety greens at present just needs the sunset cooldown and we might be in business especially with the usual elevation.

Irish Sea will be a huge influence tonight. With it being such a mild winter, the SST’s are way above average. This will lead to temps and DP’s being scuppered, even to quite far inland areas I suspect.

cant see any snow here tonight.
