A major factor - you only need to see the floods arond Lea -  Salwick  - Hoyles Lane -  Bartle

They are pumping water off the fields even when it's dry because of the lack of drainage soil area

In my time of living round here  I havent seen the like of the amount of water there is now.

Ridiculous -  and it's all down to the obscene amount of housing development (they dont even provide decent footpaths)

Then again x amount of council tax per house x15000 houses?

A money spinner indeed - and wait till the new junction is finished.....

Agree 100%. They've systematically ruined the W/NW side of Preston. No proper infrastructure being provided, schools, doctors, community areas ..... roads as they were before the houses etc etc.

And as you say there will be problems when we get rainfall like yesterday.

Just to add to what i was saying before i've found the river data :

FLOOD-WARNING-INFORMATION.SERVICE.GOV.UK

Check your risk of flooding: get current flood warnings, river and sea levels, check the 5-day forecast or use flood risk maps

PPN forming over Llanberis  marginal to say the least but incoming from NSW to our region next few hours - fully expecting drizzle.

Still looking good for high ground but for lower ground I just cannot see any accumulating snow. Could be wrong but I reckon air temps will be a tad too high. Dews are conductive for wintry precipitation but any snow on lower ground will most likely be wet.

Like always and as expected, us on the east coast won’t get anything to note while the west gets pasted. Arg.... need summer to come ASAP!

This made me chuckle, probably get 1 winter in 50 were we get more snow on the west coast than east.

It may be wet and no chance of settling, but we have proper snow flakes here. Bodes well for later and those at higher elevations.

Watching the trough coming now with interest for possible lightning. Wind has backed a little ahead of it.

Thinking it's very unlikely I will see any falling snow in the next 48 hours for 2 main reasons:

1, the flow is much too strong;. I've learnt my lesson over this in past years,. Generally if the surface wind is stronger than 20 mph then chances are very low for snow anywhere less than 20 miles inland. If you can get a slack flow then chances are much better (see 30th Jan 2019 and 29th Jan 2015).

2,, the SST is way above average for this time of year,. The average SST at Crosby  is 7.2°C and we are currently running at 9.3°C.

Today's Crosby, United Kingdom water temperature. Marine / ocean climate data updated daily, surface sea temperatures and recorded...

would love to be proved wrong and it is a nowcast situation which I will be keeping a close eye on. Hope everyone inland has a lot of fun anyway at least.

Just had a light/moderate shower here, sleet in the moderate burst about 2M ASL.
