Apart from the Squall line I'm not sure it warranted an Amber Warning

I've definitely experienced stronger gusty winds that Storm Ciara (not quite living up to the infamous 'red warning' of Feb 2014 - more of a direct westerly that drove in off the Irish Sea like a runaway train)...but the squall line made it interesting for a few minutes.  May just scrape a few falling wintry showers in the next few days but doubt any settling snow will materialise in daytime temps of 5-7c.

Gale force winds and more heavy rain is forecast and soldiers move in to help evacuate homes in the Thames Valley, but forget their wellies

Agreed - Storm Ciara was/is nothing too unusual for this part of the world, just a fairly typical winter storm and the squall line wasn't as bad as some I've experienced.

What is unusual about Ciara is the widespread effects - it isn't every day you see gale force winds across almost all of the UK.

Yes - years back after being picked up and blown 10ft in a force 9 in the Cumbrian Newlands Valley nothing too unusual  the squall was quite impressive some bad flooding here though  on the fenlands of the Fylde.

The gusts of wind seemed much worse last night!  Although it has become really gusty again here in the past ten minutes.  Some wind damage to some old buildings but the main problem around here (East Lancs) has been flooding related.  Doubt we'll see much laying snow, but it only takes a hefty shower to create gridlock!  The morning commute (all 12 mins of it!) is looking interesting!

Apart from the impressive squall line, I've had stronger wind after eating sprouts!
