Never tire of watching this!

Why?

Doesn't mention North West.

I was 14 in 1991.

Did it snow in Lancashire?

I hear a lot about 1991 but not sure what happened.

If it’s the event I’m thinking of then we got a bit of a pasting up here but it didn’t seem to hand around for more than a few days.

Feb 1991 was great here. Slightly better than 2018's two beasts. I was knee deep in it here in 91 so on the Pennine summits it must have been easy to the top of the legs.

Woke up to cple inches of pure powder snow, then it really came down mid morning schools closed. Ended up about 8 inches here, not bad for little old Wirral temps were bitter.

Beautiful day here too at the moment, just dipped into the Ireland thread, all seems calm there for now.

I was getting really interested in the pattern a few days ago. It was bitter, powerful westerly, rinse and repeat.

But now it’s looking watered down, with each repeat incursion weaker and milder than the last.

I suspect the initial blast will be cold enough to produce some hail to low level westerns, what we haven’t had in a good while is a hailstorm. We used to get them often from the Irish Sea here, at times I remember them producing a 5-10cm covering. They’re awesome. That’s what I was hoping for with the pattern I viewed a few days ago. Looking unlikely now.

storm tomorrow should be fun anyway, might have a trip to the beach to view the waves

I don't think its looking weaker, its a 940MB low after all but it does seem going by the GFS charts, parts of Scotland could actually be not that windy on Sunday morning as the isobars are more spaced out.

The strongest of the winds will be ahead of the cold front, then whilst winds around coasts will still be gusty, I suspect for more inland areas the winds won't be as strong once the cold front has passed.

Be interesting too see how it all develops. Still think next week could see some severe gales also, especially Monday night into Tuesday as the isobars are forecast to squeeze together again, one to watch.

An observation rather than criticism,  came in to see what the NW thread members made of the stormy weekend....not a mention of the nailed on interesting weekend of weather, but lots of talk about what for most is a slim to none chance of snow next week.   This really is a snow forum rather than a weather forum isnt it.

(BRW not saying this storm is going to be epic, but it certainly wont be a boing weather weekend either)

I did briefly mention it on Thursday if you go the previous page.

Anyway, I am a bit different from a lot of people on here (referring to the forum in general, not this thread specifically). Yes, I like snow but I also love storms and this one looks to be a belter. 50 mph gusts forecast tommorow for my location according to bbc weather and probably more than that on exposed locations such as on high ground and in coastal areas. I also admit to enjoying mild weather as well, esspecially if it's sunny as well (I don't enjoy it if it's gloomy and drizzly though). I quite enjoyed last February's exceptional warmth (though for me it did feel a bit early).

This week has been nice.   Almost like a precursor/warm-up to Spring. ☀️ Mainly dry, not too windy, had a few sunny days, more birdsong, lighter nights, nice full moon at night.  Had a couple of frosts and nice crisp mornings as well. ❄️ Daytime temperatures have been fairly mild between 7-9°C.

February does tend to feel more like a spring month these days (with the exception of Feb 2018 which was a proper wintry month). The whole winter is getting shorter. December tends to just be an extension of Autumn now.  It's not just the milder temperatures either. It's the increase in birdsong, daylight and sun strength. January was technically mild but it was also very dull, windy and wet so it didn't feel very nice a lot of the time. Whereas now it definitely feels like Spring is on the way. ☀️

Yup. Looks like severe gales for all parts of the region tommorow, esspecially in exposed locations such as high ground and in coastal areas.

Take care everyone.
