22.5mm so far here today. Nothing too extreme, but if it carries on, which it is set to do then we'll be looking at least double that amount by the end of tomorrow morning.

Same up here, rain since late morning, heavier during the afternoon then it became lighter but back on the heavier side again now.

At least it stoped a repeat of last nights early bonfire firework display from happening.

45mm here...have had some really heavy rain earlier...the leaves flying off the trees made the wind gusts look stronger than they were... river down the road and drain overflowing again for the umpteenth time this summer/autumn.... “at least it’s mild” 11c....

GFS overplayed the snow potentials this week.

This from METO only mainly highest tops benefitting 2100ft - 2400ft  - it's grim out today though

WEATHER

Cloudy with some patchy rain and sleet, turning more persistent for a short time this morning particularly across southern Fells, with snow above 900m. Becoming mostly dry around midday. Sunny spells and a few light showers this afternoon falling as snow down to 600-700m. Cloudier this evening with further showers across western and central Fells, but any snow becoming confined to above 800m.

A miserable cold wet morning here, following on from a preety drab cold wet day yesterday. Temperatures around the 5-6 degree mark, more akin to mid winter in feel. Await to see how low the snowline might be once we see a clear out in the next couple of hours, only expecting perhaps a slight cover above around 700 metres, as the precipitation has only been moderate in intensity over the central fells. Evaporative cooling has been evident but not significant enough to enable a much lower snowline.. anyhow will wait to see.

Looking forward to some dry cold frosty conditions over the days ahead, we've had a long run of wet grey weather and could do with some sunshine - the frost will put damage to the leaves, but also produce a late intensity to the colour before they finally wither away and fall- thankfully we've been spared any stormy weather. Indeed so far this autumn hasn't been especially windy despite low pressure ruling the roost.

Much better now the rain has cleared but now we face the other side of winter's miserable coin....shorter days, so even though it's cleared up and the sun is threatening to come out....it will be disappearing behind the horizon in an hours time....tomorrow we've would have barely seen it.  Oh well...hopefully winter will dish out some of it's goodies over the next few months...in the shape of something white, soft and cold.

Thoroughly vile day. Much better from tomorrow. Should be good visibility for walks too with the clearer colder air.

It will be interesting to see how much the October rainfall total has rocketed up after all this. Official figures for NW England include the North Wales region as well.

Went up by 34mm provisionally.

Made it up to Edinburgh yesterday from Manchester Piccadilly station. Glad we were heading North as kids had wanted to ho to London and alot of journeys were cancelled due to flooded lines.

Even Travelling from Glossop was at risk as the line was partially flooded at Hattersley.

We got past Carlisle and the sun  came out.

Looks like more heavy rain towards the end of the week.

Yesterday roads were under water and there were floods all over the place. How much rain are we going to see this winter? It's a real concern.

Yes air frost expected tonight, and quite probably tomorrow as well, slightly milder Tuesday night but a ground frost could occur, making for three cold nights in a row. We often see the first run of frosts around last week of October on average. Will be nice to wake up to a frosty sunny scene in the morning, instead of grey skies.

Had a ground frost previous two nights but last night just held up in terms of temps. but still nice to be on the favourable side of the weather for once with 3 days of cold, crisp sunshine whilst the south west has the gloomy setup.  Alas things are about to change.

It was quite clear here until a few hours ago now the mist and murk has descended and low cloud & light will probably prevail through most of today.

Arcademic at this range but Saturday is now showing some interest for the first Wintry precipitation of the season especially for members with some altitude anywhere East of the M6 could see some white stuff

@northwestsnow keep watching

Looking like a damp squid for my liking this Saturday.  I'm guessing everything East of Blackburn and North of Lancaster is snow, depends on elevation. Everywhere else is rain or sleet if you lucky.

Would love a little snow...even a flurry on Sunday as it’s my birthday... might have white hills around...
