Jeez...days don't come more filthy than this when it comes to weather...non stop persistent rain all day...now getting a renewed injection and bucket it down.  Hard to believe it's mid August

Spent all day around Longendale, Snake Pass, and Kinder Scout today. Nothing but rain and more rain with some of the stronger wind-gusts making it feel like hail pellets, wrapped head to toe in waterproofs but that didn't stop the rain from getting in as I was coming down into Hayfield. Quick change into dry-clothes and the rain stopped just in-time.

And just for a change, its raining...

Off on holiday for a week to Barmouth in Wales tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will be better there. Checked the forecast and its looks decent and mainly dry, if a bit cool and windy.

BBC Weather forecast for Barmouth, Gwynedd. Tonight: Light Rain Showers. Min 14°C. Wind 25mph SW. https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2656311

Brigtening up now after the rain showers early this morning. Could be a nice day ahead.

One of the worst summers I can remember. Can’t remember the last time we hit 25C. I haven’t been able to sit in the garden at all. Usually have a nice tan. Went to Spain but the UK make quick work of the tan built up by the Spanish sun!

Roll on next summer.

Forget that. In Manchester now and it's mostly cloudy and it feels like October.

Well it's still better than Summer 2016 and 2017 in my opinion. There have been quite a few days in July when I was able to sit in the garden in my shorts and t-shirt in the sun. My legs and arms are slightly darker than they were in the winter.

Not a bad day today if a bit windy but complete contrast to yesterday's deluge. Night's starting to draw in now. Autumn just round the corner.

Aye, summers I think on average getting cooler, yes we had hottest day ever, but really a one off, and high pressure plumes becoming rarer

Crikey, I may live in the frozen and drenched lake district but I've got a fair tan on my arms, face etc.

Been an ok summer, was v dry April may and june, indeed we were looking at a fish rescue on a trout fishery I help manage...

Only last few weeks has it gone downhill, so for us up here, not so bad!

Arrived in Barmouth, Wales late this afternoon. Mostly sunny but with a very strong breeze coming from off the Irish Sea. Temp was only about 17/18°C. Not much strength in the sun either. The evening felt distinctly autumnal indeed. More like late September really.

Funnily enough, I went to the NE coast in May last year and it was all E/NE 'lies and now I'm on the west coast it's forecast to be W/SW 'lies all next week.

Can't escape those chilly sea breezes!

17th July-16th August 2019: provisionally 201mm. This wet spell all started on the 17th July

How does that compare to 31 day calendar months?

Wettest January on record: 227.8mm in 1928

Wettest March on record: 178.3 mm in 1981

Wettest May on record: 141.2mm in  1924

Wettest July on record: 171.1mm in 1988

Wettest August on record: 238.4mm in  1956

Wettest October on record: 233.7 mm in 1967

Wettest December on record: 271.6mm in  2015

So that period is up there amongst the wettest spells ever recorded during summer.

Very breezy at the beach today. Wind coming straight off the sea. Warm in the sun, chilly in the wind. Sand blowing in your face.  Horrible.

Another autumnal evening here in Barmouth.

Overcast with Intermittent Rain and a chilly breeze. Feels colder now as well. It could be October.

Having a good holiday then?  I once caught crabs in Barmouth.

It's not sand castle making weather.
