Yep barely stopped all day, wind still howling. 94mm now for the past 48hrs.

Not helping all the bridge repairs that are still going on around here after Desmond

Pretty damp overall...Becks in spate cloud down to 1100ft max, often lower. Quite humid, was hoping for a thunderstorm to clear the air, looks like we have to make do with more rain!

Yes a miserable summers day, lots of rain, coming in bouts.. on the back of a very wet day yesterday - rainfall totals mounting up significantly.. fast turning into a very wet poor summer month given the outlook. This evening and last night should be seeing the tourists out in flocks on the streets of Windermere and Bowness  - alas no-one to be seen..

Saturday

Overcast and Windy with Periods of Rain Temp 16

Sunday

Overcast with occasional drizzle Temp 14

What a miserable weekend. Feels like Mid October not Mid August. Another crap August as usual.

That said the Suns just decided to pop it's head behind the clouds for a few seconds.

Well to add insult to injury, it's been wall to wall cloud all weekend but just as it gets dark, the cloud magically disappears and the skies are now completely clear. Max temp today a more than pathetic 14.5°C. It's currently 11.6°C now. so if it stays clear all night it will probably dip into single digits in the first time for weeks.

Will probably be back to cloudy when I open the curtains tomorrow lol.

Depressing figure. Already 63mm for this August up to 10th for the NW England and North Wales region.

Even more depressing, this is how wet it has been since 17th July for NW England and North Wales.

17th July-10th August: approx 161mm for that region,   June 2012 was about 174.4mm

First time this summer that there feels a slight 'coolness' in the air...nothing too kick start the central heating into gear, but just something that makes you look at your jumper for the first time in months.  We have the winds from the north west so that must be why, most of this summer although quite wet at times it's felt muggy and warm all the same.

Quite taken aback at the Yellow Met Warning for rain this evening too, although I think it's mainly western areas that will be mostly affected by any beefing up of the showers from the Irish sea.

I noticed that when I opened the bathroom window today. Definitely an autumnal chill in the air despite the sunshine. Just 16°C here with a moderate breeze, 9.8°C minimum last night, more like a typical September day. Temp down to 19°C indoors and it feels a bit chilly, put the heating on for half an hour to take the chill off.

I’m surprised at that figure as it hasn’t felt anywhere near as wet as summer 2012 or even summer 2017, both summers it just seemed to rain all the time. Whereas I think this summer, the rain has tended to fall less frequently but more heavily when it has fallen, often in the form of short sharp showers or thunderstorms. Yes, there’s been a few wet days but plenty of warm dry spells in between, which summers 2012, 2017 (and even 2016) were lacking.

So the statistics don’t always tell the full story.

The main reason why it doesn't feel as wet is because there was not a lot of rain for a three week period from late June to mid July only about 8mm.

There hasn't  been many dry spells, just one main one so far this summer (late June to mid July) and odd days.

Yes had the backdoor open facing East and heard the thunder and saw the lightning flash... strange though according to http://map.blitzortung.org/#11.21/53.532/-2.2087 the touchdown is reported near Birch services

birchstrike.JPG.17361c882684afb95251496f2775b0b8.JPG

and it felt closer than that.

23mm of rain overnight and still going... will this afternoon dry out before tomorrow’s next weather system...bbc seem to suggest Saturday will be “dry” and have “sunny spells” not holding my breath....

It's very windy here this afternoon. More windy than on Saturday actually. Plenty of sunshine but at only 14°C (max 15°C) its more like early May or early October.
