Hate slow moving rain. Every time I look at the radar it seems like I might finally be on the edge of the rain band but then more seems to pop up. And plenty of the country has been mostly dry all day. Really frustrating.

Pretty bad flooding near Daisy Nook garden centre a stone's throw from here. Oldham council cleared it but now the flooding is back. The river Medlock flows right next to the garden centre.

The area from Ripponden to Milnrow looks to have had a deluge in the last hour. Spreading into Bury, Heywood and Middleton

It'll be fun seeing the end of summer rainfall anomaly charts for the Midlands and parts of Yorkshire and NW England.

This is pretty much where the rain has been focussed this summer.

Heavy rain here which has really intensified in the past couple of hours. If this was snow in winter, we'd see very little due to the rainshadow effect. The rain is having no such problems though!

The monsoon has started here now, absolutely hammering it down.

It looks as though it has developed convectively.

Would have thought this would warrant an amber warning - surface water everywhere around Hale / Bowdon

Yeah, probably the crucial difference. I also note that local winds are light Westerly as well, opposite to the direction that the rain is moving.

Certainly no issue with yellow, scorched grass this year.

Last year really damaged a lot of grass around here. Never really seemed to recover in some patches, despite plenty of rain since.

Yes not surprised...it's a notorious dip just outside the Garden Centre and has been flooded today, photo even made it on the BBC website...

Edit: It's going out with a sting in it's tail this slow moving rain band, some of the heaviest rain of the day now falling here.

Hasn't got above 15c all day. Got the window open and it feels really cool compared to what we saw a few days ago! 20c difference.

Yeah I meant it’s warm compared to the cold  stuff we will be getting in a few months.

Looking at the radar there looks to be imminent danger, seriously some people might need to evacuate, tropical rainfall levels.

Daisy Nook in Failsworth. It sits in a bowl with the Medlock river flowing through it. I was considering asking the garden centre if I could install a weather station in a suitable position there as it could be a potent frost hollow too given the bowl type topography.

Rochdale town centre will be flooded out I'm sure. River Roch must be raging torrent.

Starting to ease off now here by the looks of it. A good couple of inches have fallen during this event but looks like we got off lightly compared to what looks to be unfolding further N.

To think what 2 inches would be in snow, in winter we will desperately hoping as much as 2 inches of snow (not many mm's of rain) falls to rescue a bad winter late Feb / Early March no doubt.

Grass survived this year, my flowers look absolutely battered. Quite remarkable rainfall today, this morning river flood alerts were 3 red and 6 amber, I looked again 10mins ago they had increased to 8 red and 7 amber. Info sourced from https://riverlevels.uk>floodwarnings.  NW region. It's absolutely tipping down at the moment, gone quite dark too.
