Was thinking about doing Great Gable from Seathwaite. Staying in Keswick for the night. The walk just a prelude to a few beers and a Cow Pie at the George!

Seathwaite - Yes a good route -  scramble up past Taylorgill Force and follow Styhead Gill past Kern Knotts Crag.

On to the Girdle but maybe not "Thread the Needle" then up the scree of Hell Gate.

You could cheat a bit and start from Honister Quarry at 1500asl...!

So many good hostelries in Keswick  Wainwrights opp George Fishers - you may bump into a certain Mr Alan Hinkes OBE

Sunday is looking marginally better - but obviously a good form of navigation should be advised.

Sunday unfortunately we will be on our way home. My mate and I squeeze these trips in around family and work life. Drive up from Leicester early Saturday, do a good walk and then stop over for a few beers and head home Sunday. We've been a good run as haven't had a "washout" day for the last 12 visits!

Well, here we go with the second soggy afternoon of the week. We managed 10mm from Tuesday's rain in low-lying parts of south Manchester, I think today into tomorrow will exceed that.

No rain shadow in today's setup...in fact when the rain arrived from the south east it arrived with quite a downpour....now settled into persistent rain for what could be a wet few days and possible week ahead.  Summer on hold.

Never ceases to amaze me when low pressure moves up from the south in the Summer we are guaranteed to get a soaking all day but in Winter the low stalls & places down south get buried in snow whilst the snow refuses to move north.

Horrible day. Persistent moderate rain and a max of 12C.  Pathetic.

Meanwhile Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland reached 28C today. Might not get as hot as that all Summer here in Oldham.

A decent start to the day it felt quite warm under the sunshine, alas it went rapidly downhill from early afternoon, by 5pm heavy rain, temperatures languishing around 12 degrees - miserable!

Another deluge tonight and tomorrow looks woeful until later in the day, hopefully Sunday might be half decent..

Had winter 2019/2020 started on the 1 May this - oh what a freeze and snowfest of a winter we would be enduring.. we've had northerlies, easterlies, north easterliers, cyclonic lows in embedded cold air, and anticyclones in the right place to bring severe frost and ice days, alas its the summer and we just enduring some very poor weather for the time of year. The foreseeable shows northern blocking ruling the roost, look at the deep rooted long drawn north easterlies..

Another wretched cold, wet day.  The British "Summer" is so short that cold, wintry weather at this time of the year is an insult.  Today is yet another "January in June" day and there's no sign of any improvement.  Bear in mind the nights begin drawing in in just over a fortnight's time.

Haha, that's just inside the Arctic Circle. The continental influence at work.

Meanwhile, we had 11mm on Friday and another 9 yesterday. I don't really mind, usually it's nice in June then goes bad just as the schools break up. Perhaps it will be the other way around this year. That's 6 weeks off.

Different from this time last year. The ground was drying out, rainfall was patchy at best. Recent amounts of rain and with radiative cooling, there is a lot of mositure in the air for mist to form. As the sun was setting, mist was rapidly forming. Shallow fog this morning

Well the rain has arrived and looking at the radar, the showers have suddenly come to the boil in the last half hour.

Yeah, the first rain band really blew up as it reached the west of the region. Just a quick flurry of drops here then dry again.

Absolutely abhorrent weather and only 10.6°C.

On the plus side I have had two thunder days already this month and 6 for the year which is well above average.
