Hopefully no more fires... it is dry as up in the hills though... the wind is really drying things out...

Yeah we had that wet couple of weeks but as you say, the wind is really drying the ground out now.

Why have we got this awful wind. It’s showing 14 mph on the forecast when it’s been far more here for days. Just like a Mistral no gusts just a constant blow and no shelter here from this direction. Been howling all night!

That wind has gusted sufficiently to rip the felt off my shed roof.

Some of the gusts last night were quite scary

We often get these really gusty easterly winds here in the spring and like you say they are often much stronger than anything forecast.

a few years ago I had a few fence panels blown clean out when just a few miles down the valley at work it had hardly rustled leaves.

It’s not quite East Lancashire’s equivelant of Cross Fell’s Helm Wind but pretty strong and cold when it blows.

Well, the wind has moderated somewhat but we managed an air frost this morning. Roofs grass and cars all frozen.

An air frost this morning, another one expected tonight, could go down below -2 degrees, preety cold for April.

Glorious sunny blue sky day as well, but with a chill east wind taking the edge of temperatures. Winter coat still buttoned up, many more days ahead where it will stay buttoned.

A run of air frosts at the moment, another cold night tonight, temps were already down to 4 degrees at 9pm. Its also been the 8th day with no precipitation, and there is no rain forecast for at least the next 7, nothing unusual - April is typically the driest month of the year in the Lake District, a 2 week dry spell is preety common, often thanks to a lengthy spell of easterlies as we have now.

Best get the outdoor jobs done whilst the weather is usable.

Save on the leccy bill too by hanging washing on the line.

Us folk that live in hilly areas are more prone to drizzle if not heavy rain forcing us to find alternative means to dry the washing. If one has a large family, that is a challenge.

True, dry days when the washing dries on the line are pretty rare in this part of the country and even less up in the hills but   today has been an excellent day for leaving the drier switched off.

thats said it’s felt cold out of the sun

Aye, certainly wouldn't be the case in Dec/Jan and probably Feb, few frosts due to dominating W/SW'lys and few dry spells

Still another quite nippy April day only 7c and overcast with occasional sunny spells and a nagging south easterly.  Not quite ice cream weather, but it's going to warm up a little through next week and we could have quite a decent Easter weekend in store.

A cold day, maxed out at 8 degrees, under cloudy skies and a nagging chilly wind. Not very pleasant, indeed very much three layers and buttoned up to the chin weather.

The week ahead will see a marked warm up, just in time for easter. Very fortunate easter has come very late this year. Indeed the change this week is identical to events this time last year after a rather cold first half to the month, there was a significant warm up during the third week with temps climbing into the 20s - it doesn't however, look like we will see quite the same level of warmth as last April when I think many saw 25 degrees by the 20th.

Yes looks like a much different feel to things later this coming week. Temps might nudge close to the 20 mark which would feel positively tropical compared to today.

It's just about raining here, spitting really. Still, it looks like the most we'll have until next week at least.

A grey day, but thankfully milder in feel than recent ones which have been marred by a cold wind. Alas, it turned damp from about 4pm with light patchy drizzle enough to wet the ground but not enough to create any meaningful puddles. So comes to an end a run of 11 dry days. No rain now forecast until perhaps later Sunday at the earliest - Easter Monday if current forecasts verify will bring first proper rain for 2 and half weeks. In the meantime, becoming warm for the time of year, temps into the high teens and quite likely low 20s by Good Friday/Easter Saturday, a short taste of summer, but nothing too unusual to see by the second half of April, however, in an average year usually have to wait until mid May before we hit the magic 21 degrees 70f.

Yes you couldn't put an order out for a more perfect weather setup for Easter Weekend.  Good start today, with temps warm but humidity non-existent.....so comfortable and perfect for outdoor activities.  The Garden has been tidied up and now a cool refreshing drink is in hand following football.

Been around Valehouse reservoir twice in last 2 days. Probably passed your house!

Yes the fire bugs are out and with the bean counters betting on a low probability of crews being required in this day and age, it's a perfect situation to have an out of control fire and not enough resources to tackle it.

Certainly been a whiff of smoke from the moorland fires over the last couple of days. The moors need rain but people also need to stop going up there with bbq's.
