Keep hearing how wonderfully sunny and warm today was - mmm we did poorly it seems, it felt cold here, under a chilling breeze and cloud, maximum temp of 10 degrees.

Unfortunately we say goodbye to the current Dry and settled Spell to be replaced by a colder airstream after the cold front has passed through the region overnight

Showers turning increasingly wintry with sleet and hail a distinct possibility over low Ground Higher ground perhaps seeing a transient covering of snow.

Thunder also a possibility as the Heavy showers roll in.

Things look like settling down towards weekend with Temperatures recovering

I’m interested in a feature coming down early hours of tomorrow morning which seems to have a modest amount of CAPE associated with it.  Will be the best chance for my area to see some lightning and maybe back edge snow given the slack surface flow at that time.

Heavy snow this morning with a couple cm cover. Typical after such a poor winter, it's come a month too late in my book, I'm after warm sunny conditions now.

Indeed....cold and dull...

very different to the last six days I’ve spent visiting my brother in Denmark north of Copenhagen...15-18c and blue skies everyday.... had -4c one night with hard frost but felt like spring proper....

Awoke to skittering of snow, above about 200 metres an even cover, and quite a bit above 400 metres, fells cloaked white. Cold day, maxed out at 7 degrees.

Evaporative cooling was a key factor, northern parts of the Lake District saw more snow than here, on account of the precipitation being heavier.

Tomorrow will deliver wintry showers on ground above about 500 metres.

Outlook is a northern block lovers dream - heights to the north migrating to greenland, a long fetch easterly followed by north easterlies..

Thoroughly vile April day - wind with knives in it and moderate icy rain with some sleet.

Very chilly day today. While up on the tops, snow, hail and graupel and a horrendous biting wind.

After a chilly few days, indeed wintry on Wednesday and Thursday, today brought wonderful blue skies, abundant sunshine, light winds and very respectable temps with a max of 14 degrees - just the tonic. Tomorrow will bring more in the way of cloud so not feeling quite as good.

April is traditionally the driest month of the year in the Lake District, and can be very sunny, more so than many an August. You really do notice the ever strengthening power of the sun through April, by the end of the month its as strong as it is in the second week of August which traditionally is the peak warmest period of the year!

I spent a few hours this afternoon hiking up Shutlingsloe getting away from the sofa and the temps in the Wildboarclough valley were noticeably warm at 13'c recorded with the base-layer needing to be shedded, there was still a bit of a cold in the wind at the summit but the views across Cheshire and Manchester were expanse as they often are in the western Peak District. Made the best of the weather this weekend with decaying fronts and possibly thundery showers on the way for next week.

A sunny but deceiving day - in that strong breeze you can feel the chillyness of the North Sea being blown over the Pennines.

Cloudless day from dawn to now.  Managed an afternoon sunbathing topless in the garden.

Well we're managing to stay dry in this current phase of weather but being on the northern extent of the showers to the south we're getting fairly strong & gusty easterly winds siphoning down from the pennines....which makes it feel pretty chilly despite the sunshine of today.

Very windy today...gusts have brought a few large branches down, only 40-45mph but as trees in leaf the effect and  sound is magnified.... in Denton felt quite warm in sunshine out of the wind....

A reminder that it’s still only April, pretty warm in the sun, bloody cold out of it.

at least it’s dry though although that and the wind aren’t helping with the spate of moorland fires around here over the weekend.

right conditions and wrong idiots and bingo

An annoyingly chill strong easterly wind all day taking the edge off things despite abundant sunshine. It will become colder mid-week but the NW looks a  good spot to be this week, more sunny spells and staying dry throughout, could be some air frost by end of week as winds become lighter.

Hopefully no more fires... it is dry as up in the hills though... the wind is really drying things out...
