Had two rogue distant thunderclaps last April. Can't remember the last really loud thunderclap, must have been 13th September 2016.

Had more lying snow this winter than days of thunder last year. That is how bad thunder frequency has been and has been this decade.

I had 7 thunder days last year here which is around average. 2014 was the outlier for this decade with 14.

On average here I get around twice as many thunder days as days with lying snow. This often isn’t hard as some years I get no lying snow at all as this winter. Basically I’m pretty much guarantee 1 good  thunderstorm every year at least but I can not guarantee snow at all in any given winter.

I get quite a high occurrence of +CGs with around 2 every year on average. That day you mention I remember having one of the loudest +CGs this decade.

It's dark, the moon and stars are out so that means it's clear and we might have a frost tomorrow.

  • Chilly with an increasing risk of frost

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
