Indeed the futures looking grim ,maybe a late cold spell ,who knows

It is possible like last March. The problem is the sun strengthening making it harder for lasting snow .

Looks like potential snow chances tomorrow have become more and more watered down at low levels (no pun intended!)

Looks like turning a little milder into next week so I presume thats it for snow chances for a few days at least.

Looking like a severe frost likely tonight. -10c possible according to metoffice.

This is about as good a it gets tomorrow for snow chances on Euro 4. Hill tops only in this region.

Over snowfields across the country it's going to get seriously cold tonight.. possibly widespread -7 to -9 down south. Up here probably about -6 in parts

 Minimum was -4.0°C last night. Would’ve got lower if it wasn’t for occasional cloud. Shouldn’t have that problem tonight.

Well then today is Candlemas, the halfway point between the solstice  and the equinox. The old proverbs, (I can’t remember them Word for Word), say that  if Candlemas  day is fair then winter will return with a vengeance. If Candlemas day is wet then Spring will shortly arrive. It looks like the former.

 Today was also the day that traditionally you would take down your Christmas decorations and put something green in there place.

       “DOWN with the rosemary and bays,
           Down with the misletoe ;
       Instead of holly, now up-raise
           The greener box for show.

       The holly hitherto did sway ;
           Let box now domineer
       Until the dancing Easter day,
           Or Easter's eve appear.”

 We’ve talked about this before haven’t we; how I live in somewhat of a frost hollow. Also the wind was more off-shore for me than for you. Should both get very cold tonight though.

Went to New Mills this morning on the swimming lesson trip. It was -5°C at 9.30 and by 10.50 when I got back in the car, it had risen to 0°C

Strange how there's so little snow chances tomorrow, with such a freezing night ahead.  I'm sure there is a weather term for it...'milder air sweeping in before the rain' etc.. but what a waste.  Still got snow and ice on untreated surfaces here out of the sun.  Will be getting up early tomorrow to have a stroll around the wintry scenes before it's all soaked away on Sunday afternoon.

 I’m beginning to think there is a slight chance of freezing rain if the precip comes early enough ie mid morning. If the precip comes at or before sunrise then there is a chance of snow but the window of opportunity is very very slim.

Isn't the wind off the sea tonight though? Only forecast -1 here tonight

 Initially it’s NNW which is off-shore just  here but maybe not for you.

S

ome models then have it veering Southerly so remaining off-shore, while others have it backing Southerly so on-shore for a time. Even then it is very light, just a light air. Let’s see what happens.

Beautiful scenes around Dovestone today. Blue sky and nice cover of snow reflecting the sunlight. If only we could enjoy more days like this.
