Cold hunt - models and chat

Paul
Message added by Paul

Please ensure that the majority of your posts in this thread are model related - a theme of model discussion needs to run throughout.
Some off topic chat and reactions are ok, but please use other, more relevant threads for entirely off-topic chat (such as snow reports, met office forecasts and general chat/moans about the weather or this winter).

For more no banter and just model discussion please head to the new focused model thread - this is also a great place to post (or cross post) your longer model summaries or thoughts around the models.

Glad to see someone else is still cold hunting at this late hour!

ECM looks promising especially as we head out of next weekend.. Looks best for Northern or western areas, but we remain faithful down here in the SE. With all that cold I think it's just a matter of time before we get a big snow event.

Don't dismiss this Thursday either, with a little low clipping the north sea coasts!

Thanks Dude. It does make u jaded the constant waiting

Has been frustrating but I feel like 28th onwards it's going to turn a lot colder and snow will never be too far away !

Yes still plenty of time for some marginal sleet

HAHA you stay positive too! Everyone just stay positive, or I'll be back on the drink!

Next models start rolling out soon, starting with UKMO!

After the initial euphoria then the charts watered it right down  it now looks not too bad even at times through this week. Chances are there.

Not model related but if your up and there's no clouds might be worth a look out the window. Look West

Anyone waking up hoping to see some excitement on the 0z GFS & 0z UKMO, don't bother, go back to bed.

Chilly yes, but nothing more.

Wow. I love the GFS 0z. Would likely  give me a dumping imby. Just because it doesn’t show a beast. Give me marginal with lots of ppn rather than very cold and dry like last Feb/Mar everytime.

Right, I think we're more likely to experience the deep cold day 8 or 9 onwards.

The theme of lows moving South East looks to be locked in with little in the way of hlb imo.good for high ground esp Scotland and the NW.not what we all want to see "if you want deep cold and really low 850s"but it's what it is.im personally a bit weary of this winter altho plenty of time left.a front crossing the UK followed by a few showers isn't going to float my boat but beggers can't be choosers I guess!!!

Exactly,a million miles away  from what was being shown a few days ago with the bitter easterlies arriving  etc.

Still cold though with chances of snow for everyone but less cold then what we were thinking was arriving next week.Of course the less cold option will verify 100%%..You can guarantee that

Keep positive...

SSW and other backround signals are in our favour....models are struggling, charts have loads of potential past day 10. I feel there will be a sudden flip to a very cold outlook any time soon.

Edit: cut and paste from December

Seriously tho, at least it does look like we're in for some wintry conditions starting next weekend but no deep freeze.

ECM loading up a potent northerly

Has anyone viewed this mornings ecm yet? How's it looking ..?

Similar theme out to t192. Unsettled with everything coming from the nw to se. Snow possibly for favoured areas. This run has more opportunity for heights to build nw in later frames with less energy coming from US.

The problem is is these deep areas of low pressure in the US unjecting energy into the jet stream and therefore pushing away a blocking high over Scandinavia which was originally going to be building by the middle of this week but because of that storm from the US it has complicated things a lot!
